I suspect it has something to do with the kind of people who frequent this page. A very Manichaean (black-and-white) world-view is characteristic of adolescents. As they grow up, they tend to discover the world is more complicated than their wildly ideological postures might suggest.
It also, I think, has much to do with the highly polarised and extreme nature of political discourse in America today. It's a good question, though.

The law of gravity is the most widespread law in the universe. Not only does all matter gravitate towards one big black hole but even social issues draw people into lump masses and de-partition everything political.
In my opinion collectivism is part of the dying process of anything. It is the stage where individual elements begin to prove too deteriorated to stand on their own and they begin to rely on other elements until the whole is destroyed by decay. If enough individual people cannot make it on their own, they will envy a society that can make it and they will tax it until it is destroyed.

I don't want the President to lower gas prices. I want him to allow the free market to take care of itself. It is his socialist policies that are keeping the prices artificially high.

A lot of the people who frequent this page are adults. I'm an adult. Not certain how other people view my comments, however an expectation of serious thought should be the standard.

They aren't, but common people like short phrases, slogans and want simple arguments to complex issues.
