Why would a 3 year old need an ipad?

Some children with learning delays and especially language delays do benefit from iPads used as assisted learning devices (to help them make requests when they can't speak, for example). Other than that, no child *needs* an ipad.

They sure are a lot of fun though. Used in moderation they can be a good thing. I have a playbook myself for my 4 year old who has autism so she plays lots of educational games. We don't use it for communication, but she's having fun learning in an environment which is less stressful to her (without the complexities of social interaction). We often play with it together too. I got mine for dirt cheap though, and I'm not sure I could justify spending $500+ on a toy for a 3 year old.

Waste of money. I just got my daughter for Christmas who is 4 1/2 a leap pad which is similar but has only learning games and books on it with no internet connection. And it was only $99.

Yes that was a waste of money! A 3 yr old does NOT need a ipad. He needs love and bonding time with parents, not electronics!!

Some people like to waste money? There are alot of apps for little kids but they should be playing otuside instead

dude my parents bought me an ipad when i was 2. And my brother had an iphone before hitting 3 months. Its normal. In a few years, babys will be using apple products while in the womb.

What a waste. He should have bought him a laptop.
