Why has my one year old cat lost his voice?

When my cat came home two days ago being outside for a day it seems he lost his voice. He still tries to meow and all that comes out are squeaks; he also has a dry nose here and there. Other than that though he is acting normal, eats normally, and plays normally. He is only a year old by the way. What could be causing this and should i take him to the vet??

Update:

When i feed him he usually would meow really loud but now he i just see him attempt to and all that comes out is a sort of hi pitched screech as if like a person would lose their voice and it's really hoarse. he seems pretty normal besides this. it's been about 3 days no like this and his voice doesn't seem to be getting any better. :(

Just keep an eye on him, and if he still has these symptoms, or develops any other symptoms, do take him to the vet. If his nose is dry, just rub a little vaseline on it.

Cats always do small silent meows. I don't think there is anything really wrong. You could always try to make him do loud meows, but that would involve hurting him so don't do that. I guess if you are that worried just take him to the vet.

As long as they act the same otherwise no need to worry. I have 2 cats, one is 8 and very quiet now. Is your cat neutered? Fixed cats always seem to be less vocal. (Both of mine are fixed and quiet usually).
