Could cities in the US have been attacked in World War II?

While the civilians of America were probably safe from this, the nazis had invented that V 2 rocket. there was no way to stop a V 2 , back then.

The German nuclear technology was like nothing, compared to that of the USA, back then, but they may have been able to build what is called a dirty bomb, it explodes and spreads radioactive dust over a city. Perhaps millions of people would get radiation poisoning and die as a result. And they could do it all in one go.

Japan had started work on such a project.

Could Germany have sold Japan a larger version of a V 2 ? this would contain a dirty bomb, and have space for a Kamikazi pilot who would steer it.

The Japanese navy was working on a submarine that had a rocket launcher on it.

The Range of the V2 was enough to reach England. Even if Germany of Japan tried they would not have launched a V2 that could reach the US from either Japan, Germany or occupied France. There were some Germans who landed on our coast at East Hampton Long Island New York and at Ponte Vedra Beach Florida however and they were quickly rounded up and six of them executed and of course there was also the The Duquesne Spy Ring. But, successfully attacking us with V2's...no possible way it was going to happen.

Cities of the USA were attacked.

Uboats did strike within eyesight of the shore. Somebody already mentioned the infiltrators in New York.

Japan used hot air balloon fire bombs against the USA. These balloons were made by school children and tragically their only confirmed casualties were some American school children. Some of these balloons made it as far as the midwest. These balloons caused many forest fires in the North West leading to the beginning of the Smoke Jumpers.

Japan had a plan to use chemical weapons or a dirty bomb on the USA since they couldn't quite get to a full nuke. This was planned by submarine as you already pointed out.

Pearl Harbor, Phillipines and Guam were all attacked or invaded and they were part of the USA at the time.

Japan also had a plan to strike the Panama Canal (that was also US territory at the time).

Japanese were rounded up and put in camps, but the FBI infiltrated several German and Italian groups and stopped planned attacks. We had people that could pose as Italians and Germans, but not Japanese.

Well, even though they didn't reach the cities, the japanese DID kill people in the continental US with Balloons that they sent over. I believe that there were only three fatalities and it was in a national park out west. MANY balloons were released and several have been found scattered around the country. The Japanese subs also shelled some factories on the West Coast. All of this was kept quiet for propaganda and moral purposes during the war.

The Germans (Nazi) did in fact build a larger version of the V2 but they did it on American soil after the war and it was the prototype that lead the US to landing on the moon. This was work done by Nazi officers that were brought back to the US in exchange for asylum. The Russians would have done it, or the Japanese (if they didn't get bombed in the process).

Fort Stevens, Oregon was also attacked by the Japanese Navy.

There was no way for a V-2 to reach the continental U.S. either. Not from Japan, not from Europe. Not even close.

If they could have, they would have.
