Best way to get a Cougar without dogs?

Question

We've been having a little problem with cougars hangin out around our property at times and have had one horse killed down our road already and a neighbors dog was shredded in their yard a few weeks ago. Many neighbors have seen this cat walking in our field in broad daylight but i can't seem to find it. Our wiener dog is now missing and my German Shepard was out with him that afternoon and came back shaken up pretty bad. Won't even go outside our house anymore, its strange. Although i think its coyote's ( i can take care of them ) my neighbors all want this cougar away from our homes. Agree or disagree, I plan to shoot it. Hunting cougars with dogs is illegal in oregon and oregon fish&game can't do anything about it. Any tips or advice on how to find this kitty without the hounds would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Call kitty to you. A few times while calling coyotes in Montana we had a cougar show up. This was on ranches seldom hunted. I had friends from other states use calling as a method to bring in a lion.

Find out where the lion travels. Set up a tree stand and call early morning or late evening. Ground blinds also work but give you far less of an advantage point. Then call them in with some of the calls recommended in those links. I had them respond well to a lost fawn call.

By the way they taste pretty darn good! You would be surprised at the flavor.

How To Hunt Cougars

You could try some deer scent. I had some out one year and had 2 cougars come into my location. I did not shoot them (protected in Missouri) and I had plenty of chances... but I sure wanted to. I'm not saying it's sure fire...but at 6 bucks a bottle it's worth a try anyway.

My grandpa said to remember that they hunt at night. Dig a pit and cover it with some type of camo with some meat in the middle. If the pit is deep enough the cougar will be there in the morning.

if the conservation officers in your area won't help, and i am assuming you have at least called them, try a varmint call like a wounded rabbit. get yourself comfortable in a blind or a hidden place and be patient.
