What's with this whole King James Version only thing? It doesn't make sense.?
I understand that a lot of Christians want to get the most accurate version of the bible translation but from what I have been reading in comparing translations (my favorite one of choice is HCSB because it's word for word and translated straight from the ancient text and from a Christian company) ....they say the same things in more modern vocabulary for us to understand. From my understanding, the inspired word of God cannot be tampered with or corrupted from it's original meaning. Personally I cannot stand the NIV or NLT because they take their own meaning into account and simplify the text too much but I fail to see the difference with the accurate and word for word/literal translations.
I really think that arguing about King James being the only true word is just another way of getting off track and focus on what God really wants and God's love for us and the point of Jesus dying for our sins.
I highly respect KJV but I just want to understand this.
Take the "making sense" part lightly. obviously this goes by faith but what makes King James all holy?

I don't understand either. For the past two centuries, bible scholars
have been doing critical analysis of the bible. They have discovered
hundreds of thousands of errors. Some say over 200,000, and others think the
number is closer to 400,000 errors, in translation - outright changes
and substitution or creation of new text inserted as if a known writer
had written it. Scholars think that 7 of 10 items credited to Paul are correct.
With all those alterations made centuries ago, what difference which one
you buy into..
Somebody once asked Edgar Cayce, who read the complete bible once a year
through out his life, what is the best bible. The famous Psychic answered:
"The one you will live."

The ironic part of the King James Only Bible concept was developed by man. The person who labeled the King James Version Bible the only authorized version was King James himself. KJ was initially very strongly connected to the catholic church and upon their disagreement KJ removed the books that are only found in catholic bibles and were not inspired scripture and written centuries after the Bible.
His history:King James VI of Scotland became King James I of England in 1603. He was the first monarch of the House of Stewart (or Stuart) and succeeded Queen Elizabeth I, the last monarch of the House of Tudor. James was the son of Mary, Queen of Scots, and Henry Stewart, Duke of Albany (known as Lord Dunley). James became the king of Scotland at age one (1567), when his mother was forced to abdicate the throne, and finally assumed real power himself in 1583. As a young king he survived several assassination attempts and strengthened the power of the crown over Parliament. He allied himself with England's Elizabeth (making only a token objection when she executed his mother), and when the childless queen died, her throne went to James. (He was her distant cousin as the great-grandson of Margaret Tudor, elder sister of England's Henry VIII, the father of Elizabeth.) His reign as James I was marked by unpopular policy decisions and uneasy relations with Parliament, who resented his assertion of the Divine Right of Kings and considered him self-indulgent and crass. He dissolved Parliament in 1611 and, excepting what was called the Addled Parliament (1614), ruled without one until 1621. Raised a Protestant in Scotland, James angered Puritans with his support of the Anglican Church, and he frustrated both Catholics and Protestants with inconsistent policies. His personal extravagance and reliance on incompetent or corrupt court favorites made him increasingly unpopular and helped set the scene for the English Civil War under his son and successor, Charles I. The colonization of America began during his reign. Despite all the turmoil, he is probably best-remembered for commissioning the translation into English and publication (in 1611) of what is called the Authorized or King James version of the Bible.
Extra credit: James was more of a scholar than a warrior; he authored several treatises, including The True Laws of Free Monarchies and Demonology... The "Gunpowder Plot" to kill James in 1605 was foiled when Guy Fawkes was caught with 36 barrels of gunpowder beneath the House of Lords... Critics winked and nudged at James's close relationship with George Villiers, called "wife" by James and made Earl of Buckingham in 1623... James imprisoned a favorite of Elizabeth, Sir Walter Raleigh, and eventually had him beheaded.

The closest you will get to original text is Aramaic, Hebrew & Greek translation. www.biblecc.org has a vast amount of free study tools. Use the versions that you feel give you more clarity. Trust the Holy Spirit to give true revelation and even with different versions the message not changing is where the importance lie. I do honestly take great spiritual fear in any group of people, that force only their view is right, when actually there is only one way to God and they don't point to man.

The KJV is the most accurate as he hired scribes of the day who were highly educated and they transcribed the Bible from Hebrew OT and the Greek NT. It can be rather difficult, but the meaning is lost in other translations. For instance, in this new Bible called "Bible For Dummies", in the 23rd Psalm, the passage, "thy rod and thy staff they comfort me", is completely left out. That is one example. Even the NIV has misrepresented words such as switching the word "marvel" for "amazed". This passage was in the book of Rev. while John was seeing the great whore Jezebel. Now when you hear the word "marvel" it usually brings positive connotations. You would no doubt marvel at the Grand Canyon. You may also be amazed at it as well. But I doubt that you would marvel at a dead dog on the road, though you may be rather amazed. It's a small example.
I would also like to point out that Strong's Exaustive Concordance of the Bible, which is an invaluable tool when studying scripture, cannot be used without a KJV. The words are so changed in other Bibles that it would practically render the concordance useless. I find that the KJV is powerful and rich. It takes one who is bent on learning the deeper truths of God's word. I use other Bibles as a reference sometimes to help out, but my main books are the KJV, Concordance, dictionary, and encyclopedias. Just the facts mam.

KJV = The Seventh (english) Bible,
http://www.godshew.org/Sevens5.htm
notably
'one made better from six good'; So 'better' than 6 good,
like "very good" is what God saw a 7th time in Genesis 1
http://www.godshew.org/BibleTranslators.htm
so
I find KJV 'better' for my allegoric study
than all other Bible perversions out there
http://www.godshew.org/Allegory.htm
BUT
better is neither yet best, nor yet true rest

SO
I also use these notable biblical aids
http://www.godshew.org/Bibles.htm
BUT
never those 'dangerous helps' offered
in many devotionals and commentaries
which tend to arise to $educe the people

I grew up on KJV and what is stored in my memory is KJV. I have heard the other versions are harder to memorize. I still use the KJV but I also have MANY other versions for comparison study as well as using other helps.
The usual argument used for KJV is not valid to me because it and many others are translated from the latin Vulgate and it would be more likely, [in my opinion] for the catholics to have been corrupters of the Scriptures since they strayed from the early church soon after the "Church of God" got going, Paul states in the epistles how that was already a problem. Bottom line is, though, we have to rely on the Holy Spirit to "teach" us.

I am in the same, or similar, boat as you are. I mostly read the NIV version because it is what was provided to me through my youth. However, my favorite version is an old catholic bible that my dad owns. It has been passed down through my family through numerous generations and may be as old as the KJV version. I like it because 1) it contains the extra books which, while they may not be considered biblical by some, there are others who consider them to be so; and 2) It is old and has many sub-notes to explain the meaning of almost every concept presented.
I do not like the KJV because King James permited the printing of the KJV as his personal interpretation of the Bible. While I am sure that great care was taken in the KJV translation; I can't help but remember the corruption that was prominent within the Church and Government during this time. I would much reather read an original, Latin or Greek version...

I wonder that as well. I personally go for William Tyndall translation due to the fact he was the 1st one to actually have translated into the English language. King James from what i've gathered was NOT a man of YHWH.
I think many people chose King James Version because they have not educated their selves on the history of bible translation.
That being said. A good Strongs dictionary always helps. I get really into it and begin doing the Greek breakdowns. Such as Alpha and Omega in Greek that actually equals out to be the sum of all things. Or Adam = 46. Humans have 46 chromosons. Everything else on earth has 45. You really can not understand the bible until you study it this way IMO.
The bottom line is. Most people try. But never ask questions.

In the KGV and HCSB,, the Greek word Catamite is translated in English to Homosexual, yet, that is not a true translation. I think therefore, that "the word" can be corrupted quite obviously. That's why people have their favorite versions... change the interpretation of a single word here, for whatever reason, or there, can make significant differences with significant consequences.
King James was a man who had sex with men.

I do not believe it is the only version you should read because that is mans look at it. Also, no 6 year old kid understands old English. However, it is said to be the most accurate, and the best to study if you are into looking up Greek and Hebrew meanings and stuff. I really like New Kings James version.
