    The mean is the average

    Standard deviation is a little harder to describe. Its the square root of - [ the sum of (each piece of data minus the mean)² all divided by the number of elements minus one].

    LoL

    In the first question on tinypic, you get the mean by multiplying each of the numbers by its frequency, adding them all together, and dividing it by the total frequency, which is 50.

    it comes out 26.56

    To get the standard deviation, subtract 26.56 from each of the numbers starting with 25 and square the result. You get:

    -1.56² = 2.4336

    -0.56² = 0.3136

    1.44² = 2.0736

    2.44² = 5.9536

    3.44² = 11.8336

    4.44² = 19.7136

    Now take those squared differences, add them together, and divide by (n - 1), which would be 5.

    42.3216 / 5 = 8.46432

    Last, you take the square root of 8.46532, which is 2.90935.

    So you have a standard deviation of approximately 2.9
