What sort of villains do you enjoy?

Hey there

Well my question is, do you enjoy villains that you know you should hate, because they oppose the lead character, but you completely agree with why they are doing what they're doing, or just the type that are intelligent/skillful/good at what they do, but you completely hate them - the type that makes good competition for your protagonist in terms of skill set and that's it?

How do you feel about the first sort of villain? Does it somehow lessen your liking for the main character or the book?

Look forward to your answers :)

I think it's really interesting when the villain changes the reader's whole idea of the protagonist. I don't think that the villain should be portrayed as being evil just for the sake of the protagonist having somebody to oppose him...there should be a backdrop of sorts. The villain is doing what he thinks is right, isn't he? So what exactly makes the protagonist the good guy? If they're both convinced they're right, then aren't they sort of equal?

These are the question I usually ask myself when I'm thinking up antagonists and protagonists. I read a book a while ago (can't for the life of me remember the name :L) and it started off with the main character being portrayed as the good guy, but as time went on it showed the lead in a different light and I began to agree more with the villain. I think that kind of thing makes a book a really interesting read. Hope this helped :)

I love villains. In the end everyone has his own truth so villain should have his reasons. I hate it when villains do things just because they should be evil, its unrealistic and boring. So first one should present but for villain to become my favorite character I shouldn't be just understanding or pitying him. He must be intelligent/skillful/good at what he does and he should have aura of badassery about him.

Personally I enjoy both. The second one will build up your hatred of the particular villain, and a possible climax at the end will completely put him in his place (hopefully). The first one is fun in literature, especially if they have a sense of humor. The best are villains you can respect yet detest at the same time.

Villains who comprehend and characteristic self assurance of their skills and injury purely while mandatory whilst having a bigger purpose alongside the way. I frequently like them while they're sturdy looking (hahahha) and characteristic a diffused 'human' area (advantageous and would often times relate to them) and are not thoroughly loopy and ruthless. Orochimaru (Naruto)- clever, sly, makes use of human beings and supplies devoid of hesitation as a manner to fulfil he's ambition. gentle (dying notice)- i do no longer understand if u'd call him a 'villain' yet he's cool and particularly clever. he's have been given his plan set out and calculates opportunities and disadvantages.(yet he's loopy)

Sometimes in movies/books the villain has a more interesting life than the good guy, I like the villain more interesting because sometimes it shows more about what the villain goes through than what the good guy goes through. .__.

I like the realistic kind. My favorite kind of villain is a traitor sort of villain. You know, an Assassin's Creed sort of villain. You can't get any better than that!
