Supply List for a cat?

Hi. So, as you know from my last question, I'm probably getting a cat soon and I need to know what they need. Please just list the basics i have to get and nothing extra because I'm on a budget and I don't want to purchase un-necessary stuff. Thanks for all your help!

Some kind of healthy kitten or cat food for all life stages. You can feed raw but I only recommend that if you feel that you really can provide a well balanced meal and have researched how to make such a meal with supplements and such. You can also go ahead and purchase freeze-dried food or canned or dry. I like freeze-dried and canned the most.

Dry foods- Innova, Nature's Variety, Merrick Before-Grain, Wysong, etc

Wet- Innova, EVO, Nature's Variety, Wellness CORE Chicken, some Blue Baffulo canned foods-you'll have to look at the ingredients. Castor & Pollux Organix Organic, Weruva, Tiki Cat, etc

Freeze-dried:Stella & Chewy's, Only Natural Pet Fresh Patties for dogs and cats, etc

Blankets or a store bought bed for cats

My kittens just like to sleep on my bed.

Healthy treats( Unseasoned chicken, unseasoned lean beef, cooked liver, etc. The list goes on)

    Flea & Tick prevention

Hairball Remedy if your kitten/cat sheds a lot.

    Calming Spray

    Eye Cleanse

    Ear Cleaner

    Slicker brush or Furminator

    Flea Comb

Dental Kit for cats unless you plan on getting your cat's teeth cleaned at the vet

    Collars, Tags, Leashes, Harnasses(Optional)

    Carrier

    Litter Scoop

    Litter Boxes

Plenty of toys especially if you'll only have one kitten/cat

    Cat Tree(Optional)

A scratcher- I recommend the Bergan Turbo Scratcher- go to petsmart or petco.com and look it up, it's a great multipurpose toy for cats.

    Two bowls

Human Nail Clipper if you plan on cutting your kitten's nails yourself. Do not declaw your kitten.

A bottle if your kitten has not been weaned yet

Kitten weaning formula if the kitten has not been weaned yet

Litter- I use Tidy Cats but use whatever works best for you. If the smell is too much for you just buy a bag of arm and hammer baking soda and sprinkle generously around unused litter and mix it in with the litter scoop or whatever you use to pour the litter into the pan.

A trusted vet, money, and time.

Cat box (for toilet) with a lid or without

a scoop (metal is best) this helps you clean out the cat box

(some plastic bags for the poop too)

cat sand - (the scoopable kind is best.)

    a bed

a scratching post so it won't use your furniture.

(something like those cardboard scratchers works good for some cats.)

toys - they love kitty fishing poles

    lots o love.

a brush to keep coat nice.

ABSOLUTLY a must ... make sure to get the cat fixed

female - so won't have kittens

male - so it won't spray and stray.

Remember having a pet is like having a kid... you must take care of it and not throw it away when it is naughty.

PS. cats come to their names like dogs do if you train them that way (don't call them kitty kitty)

Cats are a great pet because they require little as far as accessories go.

    Litter box-two of them

Litter to go in the boxes

    Litter scooper for the poop:)

Cat food-stay away from super cheap, go with Purina One if you are on a budget

Bowls for water and food-you can even us your own dishes for this

As far as bedding goes-my cats like towels! They like to sit in my bathroom closet and sit on the clean towels so I just have them on my couch and on the floor for them to lay on. Nice part is they are easy to clean-throw them in the washer, unlike pet beds which are hard to clean.

Just make sure if you are on a budget you get a cat that is already neutered/spayed and declawed(if that is something you want). Also make sure vaccines are up to date.

If the cat is not coming with the above stuff done you really need to get in touch with a vet to see how much this is all going to cost you.

Good Luck with your new cat!
