Atheists: Can we have 2 separate states, one atheist & one theist, so that we can be free of each other's laws?

Atheists here have claimed that they DON'T want to change anyone's belief and are just "stating an opinion" in an open forum. They deny that this is done in the hope of changing the beliefs of theists, yet then state that they are trying to stop theists from making laws based on their theistic beliefs. This is done, apparently, NOT by campaigning for reform of these laws (that they do not feel should have been voted for in the manner in which they were voted for), but by stating their opinion, on open forums, that theism is illogical. But not to change the beliefs of theists.

"freedom includes not being subject to laws based no (sic) YOUR religious beliefs"

OK, but how about theists not being subject to laws based on YOUR nonreligious beliefs? Can we be free of them, too? Can we have two separate states operating together, perhaps, one for atheists and one for theists? So that we can all be free of each other's laws?

Update:

Nonreligious laws like allowing the killing (abortion) of human beings who are unfortunate enough to be inside the womb of a mother who does not want them there.

Update 2:

I got u babe: on the contrary, I am suggesting that the atheists who wish to be "free" from (democratically instigated) laws based on "religious" beliefs are showing THEIR "mental weakness" (as you put it).

Update 3:

Acid Zebra: how am I fvcking kidding you?

Update 4:

One solution to the abortion dilemma would be to temporarilly sterilise all men. This could then be reversed in individual men when he marries and wishes to father children with his wife.

Update 5:

OK, you win. I can't think of any more comebacks. I'm off to bed. Best answer tomorrow morning...

What non-religious laws are there that you are so offended of, exactly?

    Edit

There is no law that mandates that you must kill your fetus. Your rights to have the children of rapists have not been infringed.

    Edit

So, if abortion is banned, what will happen to the women who are fertilized by psychopathic rapists, and women who are guaranteed to die at birth due to complications in her pregnancy? You do realize that banning abortion is sentencing innocent women to death, all because of a false belief that has absolutely no biblical merit?

Acid Zebra - you should be hanged for your frivolous waste of 225 words.

Starting from 'I'll lay it out for you', yes. Although microsoft did most, if not all, of the counting.

    Back to asker -

What the actual hell? Are you serious? You do realize that the only 'reversible' sterilization for males is a vasectomy? Which is painful. And what about religions where such invasive surgery is against their religious morals? You know, the ones who are against modern medicine? Are they exempt? Do their males get to rape women and have them take care of their illegitimate offspring and get off scott free?

    Edit -

I have to admit, this is the first time I have actually 'won' against a pro-lifer. I will not be available to argue against whenever tomorrow is.

"Nonreligious laws like allowing the killing (abortion) of human beings who are unfortunate enough to be inside the womb of a mother who does not want them there."

Non-religious law? Many religious people support that law! And it's not a "law" it's a right. No one is forcing you to get an abortion.

@Benovere lol. You actually counted how many words he typed?

"One solution to the abortion dilemma would be to temporarilly sterilise all men. This could then be reversed in individual men when he marries and wishes to father children with his wife."

I've heard that temporary sterilization of men destroys sperm. How is that any different from destroying a fetus? And you seriously want men to be forced to get sterilized? LOL.

"OK, you win. I can't think of any more comebacks. I'm off to bed. Best answer tomorrow morning..."

Thanks for gracefully accepting your defeat. Now go to bed and select a BA tomorrow. After that buy me a pet turtle. :)

you have already made an assumption, and it somewhat is obviously as invalid as assuming that anybody is an "ignorant buffoon". basically, many atheists have been believers at one time and are passing to truly responsive to the numerous arguments on the two aspects. as an occasion, the hyperlink decrease than is a catalogue of creationist arguments (i'm no longer approximately to repeat them alright here). yet in no particular order and actual no longer finished (and not filtered for straw men offered as arguments): a million. The Bible is one hundred% real 2. Watchmaker. 3. positive tuning. 4. people keen to die for it 5. Miracles. 5. very own adventure. 6. I basically comprehend etc... it somewhat is totally no longer ordinary to sum up 2000 years of argument. it might desire to additionally be reported that atheism isn't strictly a theological place.

    *sigh*

Yes, I enjoy discussing religious beliefs of all manners. No, I don't hope to change their beliefs. Yes, I'm trying to prevent people from making laws based on their religious beliefs, like teaching creationism in public schools. No, I'm not doing that here on this forum. Yes, I'm doing that by campaigning and voting.

"laws based on YOUR nonreligious beliefs"

    Which ones are those?

But if you want to start up a theocracy somewhere, feel free.

    ----------

You think abortion is a law based on my "nonreligious beliefs". Are you fvcking kidding me?

I'll lay it out for you. Abortion remains legal because the courts have decided that something without a functioning brain and central nervous system is only a potential human and the rights of the woman who's looking at being an unwilling incubator for nine months weigh heavier than the supposed rights of a potential human. No amount of throwing around terms like "babykiller" and other emotionally charged language has changed that, and the pro-life side has consistently failed to come up with rational arguments. And if you think all Christians are anti-abortion or all atheists are in favor of allowing it you are simply mistaken. It has nothing to do with religious belief or lack thereof.

Creationism is not taught in schools because in the numerous court cases creationists have consistently failed to demonstrate how creationism is science - in fact they've been constantly forced to admit it is in fact faith-based. And we teach science in science classes. In your private religious schools you can teach whatever the hell you like. This is an example of the religious pushing their beliefs.

Gay marriage will sooner or later become legal because we're talking about equal rights for consenting adults in relationships here and despite claims to the contrary, Christianity does not own marriage. Nobody is trying to force churches to marry gay people, in your private clubs you can be as bigoted as you like. This is an example of the religious pushing their beliefs and claiming what isn't theirs. In 50 years, anti-gay marriage people are going to look as ridiculous as people in favour of racial segregation, like you had in the US not too long ago.

I've picked these three issues because right now they're hot topics within the US of A, here in western Europe we're over it.

Source(s): Benovere: you counted them? "One solution to the abortion dilemma would be to temporarilly sterilise all men." ...HA HA HA holy sh!t. Well, I grant you that yes, this would stop unwanted pregnancies but don't you think that is rather invasive? Would you force men to get the procedure? Would you penalize them for not getting it? Would you like to know why the Netherlands has a very, very low abortion rate? It's not because we're all getting mandatory sterilization. The hints are comprehensive sexual education and availability of contraceptives. Public education is key. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7971545

By definition, there cannot be laws based on the teachings of atheism, because atheism DOESN'T HAVE teachings. Anyway, such a country purely of theists would soon result in a tangled mess of fundamentalist laws of different religions (don't think of a society of Christian values, think strict Sharia law imposed on some areas with other religions fighting it to impose their own laws, resulting in massive civil war, not to mention stoning people to death). This would result in the immigration of the more sensible theists, as in our hypothetical scenario, we'd have to allow easy immigration, which would remove he voices of reason and cause even more madness. Finally we end up with a country of warring fundamentalists and a smoking ruin where the world used to be, if they get their hands on nuclear weapons.

So, would the theist state have laws based on religion like they have in Iran and Saudi Arabia...

It's secularism that allows freedom of religion (or none), freedom of individuals to live fulfilling and happy lives, and that allows for civil and human rights. If secularism were abolished in the religious state, who would protect minorities such as gay people from hatred (claimed as "love") and persecution?

Hey dumbass this country was not founded on the judeo christian views and laws. This is a secular country founded by deists that didn't want to have one religion rule over all hence freedom of relgion. So next time you want it based, just remember slavery is ok, if you talk back to your mommy it's time to stone you. Why not just kill us if you want that then you christtards can be happy. No atheist wants to get rid of religion just keep it in your churches and out of our school.

Hey can we Pagans have our own state too? I mean eventually the Christians will tear each other apart anyway but I'd rather sit and watch them burn then be stuck in their self imposed cages.

    EDIT:

So you are Pro-Life (Anti-Choice) but obviously doesn't understand why abortions are done and thus wants their own state to outlaw it and thus increase the mortality rate of pregnant women, tax the already over burdened foster care system, and limit the choices of women.

    I see.

Kindly look up the definition of "secular."

Then kindly go back to high school and ask the U.S. history teacher if the United States is a secular nation.

You'll be crawling back to secular states as soon as you find out that a lot of people practice their religious beliefs differently than you do, and wish to force you to practice them the same way.. By then, you will be cheerleading for secularism, and praising it.
