Reason for faith in god?
i was wondering why people trust something they dont know completely?is it one of the tricks of evolution to hold on to something believing they can overcome any encumbrance to survive instead of being frustrated and give it all up?
@cognostic: lol i know that but what i meant was the reason for a believer's faith from a logical perspective
@ndma:you digress...the question is why not what is?

The only way primitive religion exists today is through the child abuse of forcing it into very, very young children but thanks to better education and growing intellects so many teens are able to
Acceptance of a supernatural claim tends to promote cooperative social relationships. This communication demonstrates a willingness to accept, without skepticism, the influence of the speaker in a way similar to a child's acceptance of the influence of a parent. By encouraging this kind of behavior where the most intense social relationships occur it facilitates the lack of skepticism and deters more open minded thinking.
They are christian, Muslim or the other religions depending where they were born simply because they were indoctrinated by their parents as very young children. They will go on to indoctrinate their own children and those will go on to indoctrinate their grandchildren!
Atheists have the intellect to see through the conditioning and escape into the real world!
Agnostics have the intellect to see through the conditioning but lack the courage to throw of the conditioning entirely.
Sadly Christians, muslims and others are still held firmly prisoner by the self perpetuating brainwashing!

I'll try to keep it logical, but it does go into further realms.
God is beyond us. I can't ever know a higher power completely because
that power is above and beyond me.
I CAN however see evidence of that power.
For example, in our terms, if you come home and the front door is
smashed in, and there's stuff strewn all over, money is missing,
you know what happened. But you didn't see it happen. How can
you even PROVE it happened at all!! Well, you see the evidence.
A mother is away, comes home and the kitchen is a mess.
She has 4 children. They all deny doing anything in the kitchen, right?
But she knows through process of elimination.
She will usually know who it was also.
Faith is from seeing what God does. As we've seen here, even on this
earth, there are many times we DON'T see the process of something.
But we know it. We know what happened.
If I am on a downward path, and I then see the bible, which I didn't
believe in before, (didn't bother with), and then I read it, and find
'this makes sense' and I begin to pray, and worship the Lord,
and then this downward path STOPS, and then it begins to
TURN around, I also know what happened.
I know the downward path stopped. I know it happened as I
looked into the bible. I begin to know God. The more I know God,
the more that door just opens a little more.

My reason is that my faith was rewarded and I was introduced to spiritual warfare. When I started to take God seriously instead of blindly following my religion because I thought it made me a good person my life improved drastically all within a short amount of time. I was given a true love(which helped me to quit smoking weed), true friends, better living conditions, a better relationship with certain family members, a better mood, a better understanding of myself, others, and the world, and more all at a time when I was suffering more than ever before. Aside from all of this, I started seeing and hearing about all kinds of proof of his existence and his love. Luck and coincidence have never worked so perfectly together with such convenient timing.
Also, my friend was saved from a group of devil-worshiping-gang-bangers who lived on his street, everywhere else in our neighborhood, and could read minds(only the devil-worshipers). Whether you believe in the supernatural being possible, you can't ignore that they placed his life under terms my friend failed to complete. But within the two weeks(the time limit) he developed a new-found relationship with God because something clicked in him one night(where he claimed something, most likely being a demon, was suffocating him and he called out to God to get rid of it and it did). Even if you still don't believe that, my friend did go from a short-tempered dirty-minded pot head to a calm and respectful pot head who(and I never thought this would happen) brings his bible to school. Anyways, since then he never heard from them. They just stopped harassing him all together. No more driving by and honking every time he doubted he would get the job(his terms)either. These are just two testimonies out of the millions out there, but I challenge you to name something else that can do these things.

If you know something completely then trust does not even come into the equation now does it?
It is really quite astonishing how people who put themselves forward as having superior reasoning and logical skills could ask questions that suggest a total absence of logic.

Reason for faith in god?
To have some imaginary being tell you right from wrong.
What trick of evolution? You are mixing apples with oranges.

Understand this with example
Let suppose you got a way to buy things free online or you got lucky draw for movie for few person ...
then you try to explain or convenience your close one's so that they also take benefits of such offers. so you go and tell them .... but they won't agree they say its not possible .... like wise when some one talk about God we consider him a ordinary person and don't give importance to the words of that person.
How many scientist are there in world?? only few outta millions person ....
if scientist are few then what to talk about the people who achieve Supreme (God)... very few
so that is why we don't have proper knowledge to understand God. we our-self doesn't study and we doubt on the authorities of holy texts....
Religion just tells the path to God...but its on how much we follow to achieve Supreme.
people have faith in religion because they have tasted some higher taste and they also try to engage us to believe in god but is our false ego which restrict our-self....
Source(s): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h10_ZxLQJHg hear this it will purify consciousness so much... and read this for enlightenment http://vedabase.com/en/bg an intelligent person is one who search truth themselves..... anyways if you think there is no thing like God and follows atheistic views then also no need to worry? the one who have taken birth is sure to die ...so why don't you give yourself a try ... - ?Lv 45 years ago
The 'good judgment' of religion lies in it potential to create crew morality & crew spirt. So is it 'logical' to have self belief that "we are the Titans, the amazing amazing Titans"? Are we certainly the "One genuine crew" blessed by skill of the "One genuine God" who has shed his grace on us? nicely, technically no...yet... ....and its an exceedingly massive yet.... once you're the technology nerd, telling the cheerleaders, that they have "suppressed the cognitive reasoning function of their frontal lobes" in order to go back up with such irrational cheers.... ....you're not any more in truth lacking the point of the game, you're fixating on the incorrect frontal lobes. So God regulations, Allah drools & certain, Jesus loves ME. Zeus hasn't were given a crew anymore yet note is he once defeated the amazing amazing Titans.

Rom. 10:17: “Faith follows the thing heard.” (Compare Acts 17:11, 12; John 4:39-42; 2 Chronicles 9:5-8. A person must first find out what the Bible says, and he will strengthen his conviction if he examines it carefully so as to be convinced of its reliability.)
Rom. 10:10: “With the heart one exercises faith.” (By meditating on godly things to build up appreciation for them, a person impresses them on his figurative heart.)
Faith is strengthened when a person acts on God’s promises and then sees the evidence of God’s blessing on what he has done.—See Psalm 106:9-12.
Illustration: Perhaps you have a friend of whom you would say: ‘I trust that man. I can count on him to keep his word; and I know that if I have a problem, he will come to my help.’ It is not likely that you would be saying that about anyone you met for the first time yesterday, is it? He would have to be someone with whom you had long association, someone who had proved his dependability time and again. It is similar with religious faith. To have faith, you need to take time to get to know Jehovah and his way of doing things.
Faith in the prospect of a righteous new system of things
When a person becomes well acquainted with the record of Jehovah’s dealings with his servants, he comes to share the viewpoint of Joshua, who said: “You well know with all your hearts and with all your souls that not one word out of all the good words that Jehovah your God has spoken to you has failed. They have all come true for you. Not one word of them has failed.”—Josh. 23:14.
The Bible’s promises of renewed health, resurrection from the dead, and so forth, are fortified by the record of miracles performed by Jesus Christ. These are not fables. Read the Gospel accounts and see the evidence that they bear all the marks of historical authenticity. Geographical locations are named; the names of contemporary secular rulers are given; more than one eyewitness account has been preserved. Meditating on this evidence can strengthen your faith in the Bible’s promises.
Are works really necessary if a person has faith?
Jas. 2:17, 18, 21, 22, 26: “Faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself. Nevertheless, a certain one will say: ‘You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith apart from the works, and I shall show you my faith by my works.’ Was not Abraham our father declared righteous by works after he had offered up Isaac his son upon the altar? You behold that his faith worked along with his works and by his works his faith was perfected. Indeed, as the body without spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.”
Illustration: A young man may court a young lady, telling her that he loves her. But if he never asks her to marry him, is he really demonstrating that his love is thorough? Likewise, works are a means of demonstrating the genuineness of our faith and our love. If we do not obey God we do not really love him or have faith in the rightness of his ways. (1 John 5:3, 4) But we cannot earn salvation no matter what works we do. Eternal life is a gift from God through Jesus Christ, not payment for our works.—Eph. 2:8, 9.

Faith is for religion, not God. The less who realize the true nature of God the more powerful those who do become.

Nobody has all of the answers or can even know all of man's knowledge. We are small tiny little brains. You can't prove or disprove God. So you can't say it is a trick, how do you not know that Satan is the one tricking you?
