My cat is in heat. Would this work?

My cat is under a year old, female and has not been spayed. She has gone through roughly 4 heat cycles this year so far. I was wondering if anyone has and helpful tips to stopping the cycle or minimizing the pain I have to go through. I am also expecting a newborn within 8 weeks. Would it be safe to have my cat around the newborn while in heat??

Need reasonable and helpful advise.

Also. If I was to get a male cat that has been fixed and tossed the 2 cats in a closest to shag. Would it stop the female from being in heat? It deffinately would prevent a litter.

AND NO I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO TOSS AROUND TO GET THE CAT SPAYED. Like I said I am expecting my newborn in 8 weeks! So please don't be smart and tell me to get the cat fixed. Ah'duh!

Thanks for your time.

Update:

It is not that I do not want the cat fixed or that I am cruel or abusive or hate animals. Because I love this cat! But at this moment in time I am tight on money, stressing over work, getting stress over having my first child. And the has been going in heat every other week for a week at a time. So yeah, at the moment I can not afford to toss 450$ to fix the cat.

But you still haven't answered questions. Helpful tips on minimizing the heat cycle. Would it be safe for my baby with a cat in heat?

So before you go and bit/\ch. choke on something!

Call your local shelters to find a free or low cost spay program. We have several local ones that range fro $20-75 (in US dollars) for a spay. Each passing heat cycle increases your cat's chance of developing mammary cancer in her lifetime, and of developing pyometra - a deadly infection of the uterus. The surgery to spay a cat with pyometra is much more expensive than a regular spay. Your cat may also begin urine marking in the house (to let the boy cats know that she is available) and that surely is something you don't want with a newborn. Getting her fixed will actually reduce the entire stress level in the household.

Getting a fixed male cat will just be an additional stress and expense for you - they aren't going to "shag" rather he's going to look at her in puzzlement on why she's making all that noise and fuss. A neuter is not a vasectomy - the testes are removed and the cat can't mate, and has actually lost all interest in it.

The cat in heat won't pose a threat to the baby, but a cat in heat is very hormonal, and isn't going to adapt as well to a new baby as one who's no longer driven by hormones. The stress you feel right now is shared by your cat - and a heat cycle is really no different for her than PMS is for you.

Hi, I know how crazy female cats can be un spayed. I would call all the veterinarians you can find and ask them to make a payment plan, like I once had a friend who only paid 5$ a week for 2 months until it was paid. Do not get another cat, it won't do anything, neutered males don't "shag" THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT IS TO GET HER SPAYED!!!!! I only last week got all of my 3 dogs and 6 cats fixed and it only cost me 220$ at the ABC clinic.

Source(s): I have 6 cats, 3 males 3 females, and 8 other pets. I am stuying to be a veterinarian.

well, i was going to answer politely, until i read the last portion. if getting your cat fixed is nothing more than a waste of your money then i suggest finding a home for the cat with someone who understands how precious your cat is. you say your cat in heat causes YOU pain...do you not even care how miserable the poor cat is? your upcoming baby will be enough for you to handle and i seriously doubt your cat will be getting much of your time and attention...find her a decent home. maybe later you can get a dog...i suggest a male.

edit; some people have a funny idea of what loving a pet means. they think that that making sure it is fed and given shelter and maybe played with and that aww how cute feeling is love. but love is doing the right thing for your pet, same as you would for a human child. pets arent substandard, they dont get what we have left over. they should get the best of what we have, even if that means putting out every effort to find a way to get her fixed. there have been several good answers suggesting low cost or payments. heck, i have even stooped to borrowing money from a friend when i had to take a cat to the vet in an emergency and it was between paydays. but it was worth it. if you truly love your cat you will do what is best for her. if that means finding her another home, then so be it. perhaps now isnt the best time for you to have a pet. there is plenty of time in your future to get another.

Well since you dont want to get your cat spayed, which is pretty inexpensive if you took her to a shelter to get fixed, you should probably give her someone that could actually take care of her. Oh, also vets do payment plans. Duh!

Also if you can't even afford to get your cat spayed how could you even take care of the expenses of a child, or even afford the food for both of your cats?

Woa, it's okay. Just take her to your local Pet Savers, or cheap spay and neuter clinic. I just got my male cat done in Pet Savers, and it was wonderful. It's a sixty dollar spay, and you get rabies shot in there too. Plus, just because they're goofy city folk, they trim your cat's claws... weird, huh?
