Does hard boiling eggs extend their shelf life?

I have some eggs that are dated today, but thought they may keep a little longer if I cooked them.

nope, in fact boiling them shortens their shelf life.

Keep using your eggs. They take months to actually spoil.

Just break them in a dish, one by one, when using them to inspect them.

    http://www.fsis.usda.gov/Factsheets/Focus_On_Shell...

    Read this link.

It will tell you all kinds of information about eggs, including why boiled eggs spoil faster than raw ones.

AND why floating an egg only tells the age of the egg, not whether it is spoiled or not.

When I was on a submarine in the navy and we went on a 6-month West Pac, we loaded food all over the boat and put fresh eggs in the lowest part of the boat, next to the hull (so the cold ocean water would keep them somewhat cool). And, they lasted about 3 months before they ran out and the cooks had to switch to powdered eggs. Some of them went bad, and you would get the odd black whites or green yolks. But, the cooks just cracked them into a bowl first to make sure they were good and not contaminate the rest with a bad egg.

So, I really wouldn't worry about the date on those eggs. However, I will say that older eggs are better for boiling than fresher eggs. So, if you like boiled eggs and want to have some around, boil those and go get some fresh ones to replace them.

A lot of people don't know that the date stamped on foods are only the sell by dates. I personally wouldn't worry about it.

I've used eggs that were 3 weeks past the date stamped on the egg carton with no ill effects. All the baked goods turned out and nobody has ever gotten sick.

They will still last several more weeks in the fridge uncooked.

The will last about a week hard or soft cooked in the fridge unpeeled in the door.

Get used to keeping the gs in the door and the uncooked eggs on their tray or in there carton on the shelves as the should be.

Eggs in the store are already weeks old. You can hard cook them or not. Do you know the float technique? Put the raw egg in shell in water. If it floats, don't eat it. Good eggs sink.

Slathering uncooked eggs lightly in mineral oil will extend their shelf life to up to a year.

Paul's answer is good but I find fresher eggs make better hard boiled eggs because they are easier to peel.
