First of all, you only have to buy car insurance if you drive a vehicle, and second the part you have to have is to cover the costs in case you injure OTHERS or damage THEIR vehicle (not if you injure yourself or damage your own vehicle). Why should I pay a tax to cover someone else's health insurance if I have no say in whether they live or die?

The comparison is that buying insurance lowers the average cost for everyone. If your car gets totaled two years after you buy it, insurance will probably replace it. Despite the fact that what you paid into the system is far less than the pay out.

Health insurance works the same way. The difference is everybody has a human body, and bodies break. By requiring insurance, we lower the average cost of the myriad illnesses and injuries by spreading the average cost out.

Do you use the public roads? Everyone pays for you to have maintained paved roads. It's called the social contract. We all pay for the services we all need.

First of all, the mandate (tax as John Roberts called it) was not a liberal, left wing, democratic, or Obama inspired part of the law. It originated in a conservative think tank. Even Richard Nixon and Ronny Raygun (remember star wars?) pushed to make people pay for health care so the rest of the population wouldn't have to support these "freeloaders". It's not a liberal notion. It was added to the package so the Repubs would vote for it. Obama was after a single payer system. Stop convoluting the facts. Silly Goose. If you don't want auto insurance simply do not drive. Take public transportation or have someone drive you.

Liberalism: the act of espousing conflicting ideals with no concept of outcome or historical precedence.

A liberal is a mob thinker. They will latch on to any person or thing that touts liberalism regardless of merit. It is the definition of what it means to be liberal. It is insanity to try to incline them into rational thought.

They have to see themselves as an individual before clarity of thought can take hold. This may happen with or without you, but don't hold your breath.

You are not paying any additional tax for this law. It is onlly imposed on those who don't have insurance, don't want to buy insurance, and don't meet the exceptions.

If you already have insurance, there is no change in your taxes.
