horse shoe? and bad farrier?
ok so normally my farrier comes to do my horses feet every 8 weeks. but literally i think it has been 3-4 MONTHS! i called and called and he said that he will come when he can. Like WTF!? and he threw a shoe like a month ago! so my mom wont let me ride him until his shoe is put back on! and im just so angry and so upset because its summer and i have so much time to ride and i promised myself i would ride him everyday and ever since summer started, i have only been able to ride him once and its really bad for him not to be getting exercise. btw he is and 8 yr old TB gelding with really strong hooves. i still don't even see why she makes him have shoes. we live in Florida so it can get wet here sometimes.and we live on a dirt rode so there's some rocks here. But this doesn't even make sense, because when i first got him like 2 yrs ago, he was barefoot for a while, and had no problem with the rocks. my yard is too small to ride in. and what also makes me really upset is that my parents wont let me ride him by myself. so my parents have to accompany me. BUT heres thier selfish part, neither of them want to come accompany me! my dad always says he has work to do and even if i do get to ride with my dad accompanying me, he just complains all the time, and i cant even ride long cuz he has to get back to his work or whatever. and my mom has this spinal cord injury and a lot of medical stuff. so she complains a lot too. and whenever i ride they both just criticize the way i ride, and just make me really angry and upset, which upsets my horse. i have asked my mom to get a new farrier, and i even searched online and got local numbers for her and she wont call! and she wont let me call them either, and insted of calling anyone she write on facebook "hey anyone know good farriers?" like are you kidding me!? i just gave you numbers! it makes me so upset. i was just trying to convince her to let me ride or something, and she just kept saying no, and said oh just ride him in the yard. and i got really upset and i just walked away to come write this for help. do you have any advice for me about anything?? btw im 14

You don't need to give me your age, I can clearly tell what it is. With that said, CALM DOWN. Pouting and shouting about it won't make it any better.
Okay, lets tackle this one problem at a time, starting with the farrier. If your farrier is telling you this, you need to get rid of him. If your mom isn't contacting anybody, ask some riding friends for farriers or go to your local feed and/or tack shop and ask whoever is working there, they're bound to know someone to come in. If your farrier is telling you that you need shoes, he's wrong and is only using that for money. Ignore that if they tell you that and ask for a barefoot trim. In the meantime, while you wait for a farrier, contact your trainer or someone else who's an experienced owner. Often, these people will know how to rasp the horse's foot so it holds up until the farrier.
Next problem. Your parents are right, they should have someone with you at all times and you really shouldn't be blaming them or getting upset over things they can't control like injuries and work. It's childish and rude to blame them for this type of stuff. If your property is too small to ride in then it's too small for a horse. Use the pastures for riding. If you want to go out, calm up a friend and offer for them to take the other horse. Even if they can't ride, it might be a fun adventure to teach them and it would be fun for both of you to be able to go riding together.
If your parents are criticizing you and you don't like it, don't be afraid to let them know POLITELY. Just say that you have your own way of riding and they have theirs and your comfortable at the skill level you're at so it's not fair for them to tell you what you're doing wrong. Tell them that if they don't like how you ride, hire a coach!

You point out that your horse used to be sedated. If your horse demands sedation to be shod, I feel you havea drawback. I suspect the farrier didn't do the opposite toes for the reason that the pony is simply too complex to manage and to shoe. This is how he makes his residing. If your horse hurts him, he can't paintings. I used to have a farrier that had a tremendous shoing body in his store. It used to be significant sufficient to take a Clyde or a Belgian. In the ones days, he might shoe something. If you might trailer it, he might shoe it. Most farriers won't do this. So, in case your horse is that complex to shoe, you wish to have a farrier that has a shoing body. Otherwise, and extra intelligently, discover a instructor or a farrier that is aware of how one can relax your horse. Sack him out and sack out his toes. Work with him till he's going to stand and permit the farriier do his paintings. He is terrified of this farrier, and the paintings he does. Get him used to it. As lengthy as he's afraid, the farrier won't shoe him. As a ways as having just one shoe, it won't hurt the pony brief time period. You relatively will have to have a balanced quandary, with 2 sneakers at the fore and 2 sneakers at the hind. A horse that throws a shoe most likely does no longer move lame brief time period. If the pony throws or pulls a shoe, you might most likely change it as quickly because the farrier can come. Good success. H.S.

I have19 children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. So I have heard tirades like this before.
The Other is correct. Calm down.
Pulling that other shoe is common sense. Pry back the bent ends of the nails (just like you would to remove the nails from a board) to straighten them out and gently pull the shoe off, keeping the nails straight through the holes and the hoof. Then rasp the toe a little to take off rough edges and do a bevel and wait for the farrier to come.
To solve this problem in the future, just leave your horse barefoot, buy a tool called Riders Rasp which is a small hand held tool to use in between trims. It works like a small file to keep the chips under control by beveling the hoof edge. Anybody can use it.

Summer is a really busy time for farriers, lots of horses have hoof problems in the summer and EVERYBODY rides their horses more so there are more thrown shoes, etc. You don't want to ride the horse shoeless now, if the sole of his hoof gets a crack in it and gets wet the whole hoof and foot could get infected so badly that you couldn't ride him again for months, if at all. Your mom is picky about farriers and wants someone that is recommended by someone she knows, because if you get a bad farrier it can cause serious problems with the horses foot as well. You are frustrated of course because you want to ride your horse, but you are being selfish and inconsiderate too. You are mad because your dad has to work and your mom has back problems? Hmm, guess your boredom outweighs his need to keep your house and food coming and her pain, right?
Heres a thought. Go out and get a job or do some volunteer work so that you have something to do while you are waiting for your horse to be ridable. You will be doing something good for the community and maybe earning a little money plus maybe getting some perspective on what its like to be your dad having to work. Its not all about you, dear.
