Is running an effective way to burn fat on the thighs?

Okay so I am am NOT overweight, just chubby in some areas but i am extremely slef concious about my weight, especially in my thighs. So, this summer I started eating healthier and exercising, and swimming. Every day or every other day, I wake up at 6:20ish and run a 1/2 mile warmup, 1 to 1 1/2 mile workout, and then a 1/2 mile cooldown. I know this isnt alot, but I HATE running. So, is running a good way to burn fat on legs, or is there any other workout that is more effective (and does not require any workout machines)? Any help is appreciated THANK YOU!

Eating healthy is the best thing you can do for yourself when it comes to losing fat form your body, and it sounds like you are already doing that, good job.

On average you will burn about 100 calories per mile you run (depending on your weight and how fast you are running) so burning fat from that routine alone will take some time - you need to burn 3,500 calories to lose 1 pound of body fat. With the right diet you can lose calories there too, so it's not as bad as those numbers sound.

If you are looking for a way to boost the calories burn from the routine you already have try adding in 30 second intense sprints several times during your run - it will increase the heart rate and cause your body to burn more fat.

I've linked to a website below that includes a basic running plan and includes some faq's on running to lose weight.

There's no way to spot reduce fat. You burn fat by doing cardio - running is a great way to burn fat. I've always been told that you lose last where you gained first, so if you put the fat on the thighs first, that's the last place you'll see results. My mom used a soccer ball to tone her legs. She had big thighs, like I do now!! Place a soccer ball between your knees, squeeze. Do 15-20 reps of this a day. Just find some way to work those thigh muscles... biking, even a thigh master. I have one of those, and it does work. Anything that will give you some resistance training to work those thigh muscles. You MUST do cardio to burn fat, it truly is the most effective way to burn it. If you're wanting to reduce fat mainly in the leg area, as I said, you cannot spot reduce, but finding some way to tone those leg muscles will aid in burning fat faster! Good luck!
