my cat sits next to her toy most of the day and keeps meowing?

i know what you're thinking, PLAY WITH HER!!!!!!!!. but that's the thing, no matter how much you play with her and her toy she just keeps meowing for more ( she only meows when someone walks past her.)

she does this to my mom most of the day and just sits in the kitchen next to her toy ( it's a fishing rod toy that has a little bit of string on it) when my mom leaves the house she turns her attention towards me and follows me around the house.

we have tried moving it to a different room but she ends up dragging it back in ( when she can't find it she goes frantic looking for it around the house meowing)

what do we do?, this has been going on for about 2 weeks now ever since we bought the toy for the cats ( we have 2 others) and she has never done this before with her previous toy ( most likely because the fishing rod toy needs a person to use)

she only leaves her toy when she goes to bed or eats ( sometimes she sleeps near the toy)

she's not protective of it when the other cats go near it

if it helps she's a 4 year old indoor cat ( she might be 5, i forget)

Update:

she's been fixed for years and has never done this before

She wants babies (kittens) if she is not spade that may make it worse. if so she may still have the urge. if you keep taking it away she will become protective . better to just let her be, or breed her once and only keep one female.

Source(s): She just wants to be a mom, my female dog did this. she had puppies ,but we kept none. so acted like a ball and a ball and a ferbie where puppies. she even produced milk once and a while. when we took them away she changed. so we got her another ferbie. she lived a happy life.
