What is your experience?
I would like to find out how other people manage to walk their cats on a leash? What has your experience been like? Does your cat like it? Do you have enough patience? Do you experience any problems when walking with your cat? Why do you walk the cat? How often do you walk the cat? What effect does it have on your cat? What affect does it have on you? I am not asking because I want to know how to do it because I already walk my two cats very successfully every day. But I am interested in hearing other cat owners experience with walking their cats on a leash.
Emily, it is not easy for cats to just go on a harness and leash, you actually have to get them used to it very slowly. Put the harness on just before you feed the cats. They might tolerate it better if they really want to have their food. Then for a couple of weeks you just let them wear the harness indoors without any leash for about 5-10 mintues only per day just before their dinner. Once they can tolerate the harness better, then you let them wear it slightly longer. In the end you add the leash, but then you walk after the cat and let the cat lead you wher it want to go (indoors). Then finally you can try outdoors, but only short time each time.

Yes I have, because my Bengal cat is one of those dog-like cats who loves walking on a leash. He is very big and loves playing in water - very unlike a cat!!!! I walk him because he costs a lot and I don't want to let him out and loose him, but he does need fresh air - once in a while.I am very patient with him as it takes quite a while for me to put the leash on because he is easily irritated. Because he is so big and strong, I can't hold him back so the only problem I get is him running really fast so I can't keep up! Also, a lot of people stare and there are plenty of dogs about in the park, but my `at isn't scared of dogs, he is actually friendly to them. I walk my cat about 3 times a week and after it we are tired out because we walk for like 1 hour.
Good Luck XD - A fellow cat lover!

I had to take my cats on a long trip once and had to leash 'em up so I could take them to go to the bathroom. It was terrible. I had to literally drag them along because they just threw themselves down on the ground and refused to walk. Eventually, I gave up and had to purchase a small litter box and bag of litter so they could go the bathroom in the car.
