Did Obama lose the vote of entrepreneurs and business owners with his "You didn't build that statement"?

People say that it was out of context, while if you listen to the whole thing - it wasn't. Because he continued to say that people think they word hard, while others work harder. he also said that if you own a business, you didn't build that - someone else made that happen, there is no such thing as "self made"... did that statement cause him to lost the votes of business owners and entrepreneurs who work their a$$ off to build and run a business for years before it becomes successful?

Maybe some, but I doubt it had that significant of an impact since most people I know in the business world were not Obama supporters to begin with.

What he said is that no one has ever done anything completely in a vacuum. And that's true. Every business owner on the planet was helped along by someone else - a mentor, the SBA, someone who provided a loan, customers who gave your product or service a chance, another business-person who offered advice, a shop that was willing to carry your product, a company that gave you a break, the local chamber of commerce or a leads group.

I think that it affects the credibility of the candidate who takes something out of context and then exploits it. Unfortunately, this is a common strategy. It's why it's important to look at voting records, do your own research and make up your own mind.

He may have lost the votes of the truly stupid ones, but the smart ones all understand that what he said is TRUE, that the road system, the telephony system, the INTERNET, the electrical grid, the radio waves, etc., are paid for by ALL Americans, and that the economy tends to grow faster under Democrat Presidents than Republican ones, and that a "rising tide lifts all boats", so only the TRULY dumb & partisan Right wing "entrepreneurs and business owners" would change their votes because of a comment.....and paradoxically, THOSE are the businesses that are most likely to have failed anyway, so by alienating them, Obama serves only to make himself and his party look better four years from now! Clinton/Booker 2016!

no, intelligent people are not blowing in the wind.

I have a handyman business. I started it because I worked in a building that needed work and on the weekends when I went in my husband was with me and would fix up things. The owner asked him if he could do some work on a rental he owned.

We both had regular jobs and eventually left our jobs thanks to others. So my former boss needed work done on a rental. So we spent a number of weekends working on that.

When we went back to our spiritual center after missing many weeks we were asked about where we have been and when we told people they had work for us to do.

We did not build our business, others who paid us did. We did not change our own diapers. We did not teach ourselves to read or buy our own food or learn ways to protect ourselves when older people took care of us. Why on earth would you pick apart something like this?

It was out of context. I heard his speech, he was talking about the roads and bridges that businesses use to ship their product or deliver their services. The businesses/entrepreneurs didn't build the ROADS.

The mainstream media seems to be towing the line that the Romney camp was taking Obama's "you did not build that" statement out of context.

They keep repeating that mantra but they are not able to explain how it is out of context.

I have seen the video and read the text repeatedly yet the meaning remains the same.

To anyone who says this is out of context, let me clarify something.

Yes, it IS true that, if you were successful, you probably had SOME sort of help. What Obama missed, however, is that that help comes from family, friends, fellow community members who want to support something. Not government programs.

Ever meet a small business owner or entrepreneur who says "Man, I'm so glad my government is helping me succeed."? I rest my case.

Oh, and to answer your question, yes. That pissed off a LOT of people.

Business owners never voted for Obama in the first place.

Only the ones who are idiots like that guy on the commercial. Something tells me he was never the Idiot's Candidate in the first place.

Intelligent business people already know that they don't become successful all by themselves.
