What's the difference in RAM sticks?

So, I'm kind of wondering, I want to get some more ram for my System, I have four slots I can fill up, but Say I wanted 8 Gigs, Would there be any difference between getting 4GB x2 sticks vs a single 8GB stick? I need to upgrade sooner or later, my comp keeps getting BSODs from memory issues :( I ended buying bad sticks and my games crash under heavy load I guess.

Update:

I hear Crucial are pretty good but these might happen to be a lemon :( Initially I picked up a pair of Ballistix by Crucial 4GB DDR3 both running 1800mhz I think, I forget. It was for this AM3+ system.

I bought a warranty for this thing, I am kind of hoping it would be covered :(

Update 2:

But what I want to know if there is any performance differences. in 2 sticks vs 1 stick

It totally depends on your motherboard and the number of dimm slots (memory slots) that you have. You will want to buy them in pairs or triples depending on your motherboard type. If you want 8GB of Ram you will want to buy 2x4gb sticks.

I can't imagine it would make too much of a difference. But personally I'd go with either x2 4 GB Ram sticks or x4 2GB Ram sticks. Always go with Crucial ram though because it's very adaptable and good quality.
