Anyone hide the fact that they watch anime/read manga?
I know that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with watching anime or reading manga, but I just feel embarrassed. The only people who know I read manga are my two younger bros. My mum doesn't know, neither do my friends. Anyone else a closet otaku?
Btw, am I also the only person that pronounces anime like 'an-ime' as in like a 'chime'? I know people pronounce it 'ani-may' but I prefer my way lol.

I know exactly what you mean i know my parents know i like it but i still kind of feel embarrassed about it. I think its because its not what every one is doing and I'm not like all my friends who like the more 'normal' things like popular music, sports and celebrities. i prefer Japan to my own country and i've never been!!
my friends know but i'm kind of shy to talk about it in front of them i have some friends who like it but not many and they are friends who don't know each other so its awkward!
i think though we shouldn't really be embarrassed about it at all after all it whats we love and makes us who we are

You shouldn't feel embarassed about letting other people know that you watch animes. Most of my friends think I'm weird because I watch animes but I don't really care about all that :p Animes and mangas are just so awesome!
And I also pronounce anime the same way as you do XD

Actually, I wish I could say I watch/read more than I do, because all the people I know think it's really cool!
I hang out with a lot of nerdy people, though, everyone I know likes a bit of anime and manga. :D
And that's the first I've heard of pronouncing anime like that. o_O It's a Japanese word so you're supposed to pronounce it like the Japanese do, really. (Besides, it means animation, so you just take the first chunk of that word and there you are.)

No, why should I? Most people at my school knows I watch anime and they don't care cause some of which watches it too. This one particular guy in my class saw me watching a One Piece clip as I was doing my classwork and he wasn't a loner or the nerdy type of guys, he was outgoing and popular. It turns out he watches it too. I'm not exactly the type to care what people thinks of me, I'm also not the type to go around talking about anime to people, they're usually the ones talking to me about it first and I just join in.
I pronounced it as ani-may. I knew it before I became a fan of anime. However, I remember I used to miss pronounce "yaoi" as in "Yah-oy" xD

If anyone ever mocks me for watching anime or reading manga, I tell them that its because a lot of anime characters have way more depth, intelligence, character, and likability than almost all the shallow two-dimensional douchebags I've met in real life. When they don't buy it, I show them Pain's speech to Naruto and challenge them to find someone who actually has enough braincells to be even a fraction as deep and intelligent in this dead world.

XD Yeah I hid it from my parents for a full 4 years.
I started reading manga when I was in 3rd grade. I would borrow my friends, manga and keep it in my desk and only read it in school. I kept this up until 7th grade. XD This is when I started watching anime.
My parents soon discovered this and were really weird about it. I guess they never approved of me watching cartoons of any sort, but they let me slide.
The only ones who know about my obsession with anime and manga are my close friends, parents, and siblings. I draw anime characters, but NO ONE shall know about it... No one I know. XP

Well....it's pronounced "ani-may" and manga is pronounced "mon-ga" not "main-ga". But, just like you, I don't care and I say "main-ga" anyway.
But, for your main question. Yes, I hide the fact that I watch anime and read manga. Why? Because most people assume you're weird if you read manga and watch anime. I don't have the desire to explain to them why I watch anime and why I enjoy it, so I just watch it when I'm by myself.

No.
I don't read any of the comics anymore, but I do still like the movies. But then I own over 1,000 DVDs (all originals!) and Amime is probably the 3rd most well represented category that I have.
If you actually feel embarassed about it, I would think about why. Perhaps as you grow older and experience more freedom as well as personal responsibility you'll feel better about it.

I made all my friends like anime some people don't get it they do not watch it so they are just Bummy and they just need help just show people a food anime that isn't disturbing o///o cuz it'll make them love it start of with a cut lovey Dubois or an action one or if they are dirty minded then you can tell them there are such animes either way if they are your friends they wouldn't hate you

Nope I really liked anime for the longest and didn't hide that fact but I more or less grew out of it. These days I'm more into fashion, girls, sports events, and getting out. And whatever floats your boat , I pronounce it as Oni-may. But hell if its something that you really share it as you wish, if others don't care or harass you for it then shove it in their face and keep on watching and reading !
