Why is it the Liberals always support policies that let the government take control of our lives?

Why is it the Liberals always support policies that let the government make take control of our lives, but o not let people make their own decisions?

Here are examples that I refer to.

1. We must either send our children to government run schools or pay for their education a second time by sending them to private school. You can chose to home school your kids, but what you teach your kids must be approved by the state.

2. The government regulates how our forced retirement in Social Security is invested (or not), makes all these rules on how much we can put into IRA's, etc.

3. Tells us that we cannot carry guns on our person. What are we supposed to do, wait for the police?

4. Liberals want to control health care by nationalizing it.

5. Liberals passed laws that require you to wear a seat belt. The government should not be able to tell you that you have to where a seat belt. That violates liberty. Seat belts sometimes help, but they don't always work in every situation.

6. The 21 drinking age also violates liberty. The government should not be able to tell people how old they need to be to buy liquor.

I am asking because I do not understand why liberals feel it is okay to take the right to make decisions about our lives in every facet of it. It seems like liberals do not trust people to make their own decisions for themselves.

If there are examples where liberals want people to make their own decisions, please explain. Abortion does not count because it is murder. A baby is a person when it is conceived. The Bible says that murder is a sin. Why do liberals think that the government should control everything?

Its not only liberals its most of the republicans as well. They get into politics because they are control freaks and want to dictate your life. You sound like a libertarian like me. Do not worry we still have the second amendment.

    What makes you think they are all liberal policies or even the government's policies. Most of the ones you have numbered are not covered by the federal government. For instance;

    1. You don't have to send your kids to a government run school. Schools laws are passed first by the state, and then the local districts. Funding for schools are mostly from property taxes and the government gives states money for extra funding. There has always been some standards for learning and testing and that is necessary to see if kids are learning anything or nothing. Parents are not necessarily the best teachers and some are better than others.

    2. The government does limit how much you can put into an IRA for a reason. The money put into an IRA is not taxed until it is taken out. This used to make sense because usually people earn more after retirement and would be taxed less under this method. I know you can earn more and put more into 401K and you can always save as much as you want in a savings account or CD's. Forcing people to contribute to SS is good because as an insurance you draw after retiring helps people who have worked to have a little to supplement what you have or should have saved in one of the other programs. It also keeps people from not having anything at all as the majority of people did during the depression because an awful lot of people don't have any savings at all when they retire.

    3. A lot of states have gun laws that allow you to carry handguns with a permit. I think it is stupid myself. If you feel so afraid just stay in the house.

    4. Liberals want all people in this great rich nation to be able to share in the great expensive health care when they need it.

    5. Liberals didn't necessarily pass the seat belt laws. The law that was passed in 1968 during the Johnson admiistration was only that cars had to have them installed, not that they had to be used but hoping people had the good sense to do so. All the states except New Hampshire have passed their own seat belt laws and I'm sure a majority of those who did were red states as they are the majority in the country.

    6. The drinking age is also passed at the state level, as is the age to buy liquor, not the federal government except possibly on government property. When a drunk is out driving and kills someone, who do you think has their liberty taken. When children, a father or mother or friend is killed or maimed, who do you think loses liberty or life.

As far as I am concerned abortion is not murder. You have cells not a viable life. Not everyone in this country believes in the Bible as some do, so what right do you have to tell them what to do. If you don't like abortion, don't have one. Evidently the government doesn't control as much as you seem to think.

You should let Rush know that any one of the "examples" you cite could have been removed at any time during a Republican administration.

    1) Got any idea how the public school system started? THE PEOPLE wanted it.

    2) All social security funds are required to be invested in government instruments. That reduces borrowing from foreign governments and is the safest investment in the world. You can save as much money as you want.IRA's, 401k's are basically tax shelters thus the limits.

    3) Lots of citizens can and do carry guns. The government just tries to control who owns them. How's that a bad idea?

    4) It works every where else so I like the idea. Unfortunately we are not doing that.

    5) The seat belt law? Really? You consider that a liberal intrusion? But women can't control their own body, people who love each other can't get married, you can be drafted in to the military...that's all fine with you and Rush?

    6) Even Rush would have a problem with a couple of 12 year-olds buying a six pack. But you want them to do that while smoking cigarettes or even pot? Seriously?

As soon as you Rushed the abortion issue you lost any credibility.

What is it with you Republicans avoiding personal responsibility, all talk and nothing to back up your statements. I will go through your list one by one:

    1. You have the option of sending your kids to a private school and you have the choice of home schooling...nobody is stopping you from doing either. Each State dictate their own requirement, even the conservative ones.As a parent, you must keep in mind that after you home school your children, future employers will not give your child a skilled labor job.

    2. Social Security as welfare system was originally designed to be a benefit you receive based upon what you put in. Right now, people are taking out more than what they put in...as to the IRA, there is no limit to how much you can put in (apparently); Romney has managed to put in $21 million and $102 million in his individual retirement account during the 15 years he was at Bain Capital LLC.

    3. It is legal to carry firearm on your person if you have the right permit for carrying.

    4. Healthcare: Sorry to burst your bubble on this one, this one is false.

    5. Seat Belt laws: Most were established between the years of 1986 to 1983....I believe it was Ronald Reagan and Gorge HW Bush were Presidents at the time.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seat_belt_legislation...

    6. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act was signed into law by HW Bush.

And no, we Liberals don't feel like we need government to control everything....but obviously you WANT government to control women's choices for something that has been legal for nearly 40 years.

A little hypocritical, don't you think?

    1. Public schools are bipartisan. Both teams swear they will work for our kids.

    2. Yes, government uses taxes and incentives to change what people do. Surprise!

    3. It's urban people who want to control where you have a gun, I live in a small town and I'm fine with you having a gun.

    4. You got a better idea to stop people from using the emergency room. The mandate was a republican idea. You guys are just against whatever the other team is doing.

    5. In Illinois it was the republicans that passed the seat belt law. There is no national seat belt law.

6.. Waaaa - Tough, we all remember being under 21 and we want kids to wait till then before they are a danger on the highways.

You're just imagining that the liberals are behind all the things you don't like.

Abortion is not murder. A fetus is not a baby, and is not legally considered a person at conception. The Bible is irrelevant, unless you want to admit that you're O.K. with doing away with freedom from religion. Why do you think the Bible should have any control whatsoever over the government, and the people of the nation?

Conservatives tend to be just as much against personal freedom as you claim that liberals are when it comes to the legalization of drugs, the separation of church and state, same-sex marriage, abortion, and other moral issues.

First of all, I don't believe that any liberals think that everything should be controlled by government, nor do any conservatives think that nothing should be. There has to be some happy medium. (for example, imagine if all driving laws and lane lines were taken away - we'd all die.

That said, the basic difference between liberals and conservatives is basically that - liberals lean more towards government as parent and conservatives lean more towards citizens interacting with each other with less involvement from the government. Neither side "hates this country" - both believe that their methods will result in the greater good.

    1. What do you mean twice? You pay more because it's a private service. If you don't want to pay that much send them to a public school, and compulsory education has been a very very very very good thing for society. You can't just let rednecks teach their kids that black people are scientifically inferior.

    2. Bury your money in your backyard if you feel that it's safer there.

    3. Im not even going to go there. You're not a cop so don't go looking for trouble, or look for trouble and dont be a fat slob who can't throw a punch and needs his gun.

    4. You can still buy private health insurance in a socialised healthcare system.

    5. Seriously? Seriously? You're clutching at straws here. Seatbelts save thousands or tens of thousands of lives every year. And it takes 2 seconds to put on. And there is no down side.

    6. Alcohol severly damages a growing body and mind if you don't use it moderately. I don't suppose you support complete drug legalisation?

    7. Watch the family guy episode about the Tea Party and hopefully you'll realise what you are.

I find number 2 particularly amusing since Social Security existed long before IRA's.

The entire question is meaningless gibberish.

Well because whether or not they realise the conservatives only alternative is getting businesses to do that, and their sole motive is profit, plus we have no vote with them.

Personally I'd have neither but I marginally prefer government to business.
