Why is Hell and Heaven eternal?
I am asking this out of confusion and distress.
So if you fancy being rude or showing your attitude, this isn't the place.
Why am I asking this? We human beings are weak. We have limited understanding( no one can truly say they know everything), we are exposed to limited natural resources and most importantly, limited time. Sure, we do have freedom to act in any way but these limitations will always be imposed onto us.
Hence, everything that we do within this finite lifetime, is it fair that we are punished or rewarded for ETERNITY? I do believe that we will be accountable for our actions but my mind cannot digest the fact that it will be for infinity. For a very, very long time, yes but imagining it to be for infnity? Some may argue that God is so holy that he cannot tolerate any sins but is it still fair for us to , lets sya, burn in hell for eternity? From scriptures that I've come across, torment in hell for unbelievers is intense so that, coupled with eternity?
Okay, I may be OCD and I can't stop thinking about this. Honestly, I find this depressing and have actually cried many times over this. Even Hitler's wrongdoings which are extreme don't equate to eternity in hell for me.
Can someone perhaps offer an alternative view as to why this is the way the scriptures have ben written?
Thanks and peace.

In reality, heaven and hell are just human projections on the eternal IS. The IS is all that is BEING. And what is BEING is neither one thing or the other. It is All of It without differentiation. The human mind creates these ideas and projects those ideas into the spirit world - the fact is, that there is:
Only the HERE and the NOW
Time is a human illusion
The idea of "OTHER" or "ELSE" is an illusion
There is no such thing as a separation of any kind
Everything is a part of The ONE who is God
Continuity, as in a continuous differential function, is what really is BEING.
All threads in this an all dimensions and universes are entwined, cross and criss-cross and are seamless.
You are totally worthy before God - accept this fact and stop belittling yourself. Belittlement belittles God who created you - God creates nothing BUT perfection. No error in you has been made and you cannot make an error nor can you be an error or do an error. Humans who think they have witnessed an error deceive themselves - everything is perfect just exactly as it is, including YOU.
You are right, even Hitler, as abysmal as he was, and needing much education by God, is still loved by God nevertheless, despite what everyone else thinks. That soul needed guidance, being a young and inexperienced soul. PS - All politicans have young and inexperienced souls because, they desire power and control, glory, recognition, the lime light. He was just one of them. For them, their pathway is longer.
About 70% of the souls on earth are spiritually inexperienced and that is why we have so much trouble here - they have not yet learned the meaning of love, compassion, giving, sharing, forgiveness and other virtues which are displayed by more advanced souls. Those who have learned and practice and live these virtues and others, are further along the path to returning to God.
There are all kinds of alternative sources of knowledge about what I am talking about. Try the metaphysics section of the book store instead of the religion section. All alternative knowledge is kept separate by libraries and bookstores, so as to hide them or create a distance, since the religionists would have a fit or destroy them or burn them (as so often happens). Religionists love to destroy and burn, tear apart and bury these truths - for with these truths you do not need religion.

I've often struggled with the concepts as well. Eternity is somethint that finite human minds are incapable of comprehending because our reality is based on time. Time with a beginning and an end. To have a reality where there is no end is, well, hard to grasp.
However, I don't believe hell lasts eternally. It wouldn't logically make sense. How can the former things pass away and sin truly be destroyed if the sinners are still burning... Forever? Logically, sin would still exist. An everlasting hell is definitely a good Fire and Brimstone sermon to scare the congregation into quick repentance, but it doesn't really hold water scripturally. There is very little that indicates an everlasting place where people are toasted for eternity.

I'm not trying to change your opinion on religion, but don't believe anything religious people try to tell you. They will tell you that they are scholarly and that they are connoisseurs on the subject, but the truth is, at least for the most part, that they are very limited on the information they know about their own religions and they only preach what they know. If you ever see a debate on religion, the "experts" always choke and run out of things to say, and make statements rather than speak about facts. They attempt to scare you rather than let you find your own way, and experience what you believe personally, which has only led to combat, death and hostility towards innocent people who get punished for just believing in something different, whether they are good or bad individuals. Personally, I believe if there was a higher being, that you will recieve comeuppance for your actions in this world. But at the end of the day, just remember that NOBODY knows what will happen once we die, so live your life the way you choose to and not how others want you to.

Heaven and Hell are eternal because of the fact that God is eternal. There are a couple of things that you have to understand surrounding this question.
First, eternity does not mean "an endless duration". From God's perspective, the concept of duration itself is a non sequitur because of the fact that God himself is not bound by time or space.
Second, when thinking about Heaven, one should not be thinking about either being in a place with clouds and harps, or being in a fiery dungeon underground. Rather, it is a the state of being that we are in before God
For the one who loves God with all his heart soul and mind, being in his presence on the day of resurrection will be a wonderful sight. For the one who despises God, being in his presence will be a horrible experience, because of the fact that they are in the presence of the one they despise

Sorry to say this, but you are wrong.
Hell is where ALL people who DIE go, there they WAIT for Jesus to call them to their judgement, those at the first resurrection will go to heaven for the 1000 years, then return to earth in the New Jerusalem.
Then at the end of the 1000 years the resurrection of the damned happens, and those unbelieving people will face the Second Death in the LAKE of FIRE.

Simple freudian logic. In order to have any deterrent or incentivizing effect, a reward or punishment must be inversely proportional to its likely hood of happening. Any reward or punishment in the after life seems so fantastically unlikely that they must be infinite. This of course means that they have a zero chance of being true.

Scripture was written this way to tell us the Truth about ourselves. We are spirit, living temporarily in this body. Since spirit is eternal that means heaven and hell will need to be, too. It's where we will go after we're finished with this physical body.

God always was and always will be.
Eternity, once in heaven, is probably some kind of standard understanding that nobody pays attention to. It's just there and irrelevant, despite being critical and important, like gravity.

Not all Scripture is meant to be taken literally. Symbolism can be recognized by carefully comparing various related Scriptures, to figure out what they mean collectively, without contradicting each other.
I'll try to make it understandable for you by answering in two parts:
A.
The meaning given the word 'hell' by the churches is an oxymoron. When it was substituted for the word 'grave' in the Bible, its meaning had nothing to do with death, nor torment for ANY duration:
. . . Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, unabridged, under “Hell” says:
“from . . . helan to conceal.” The word “hell” thus originally conveyed no thought of heat or torment but simply of a ‘covered over or concealed place.’ In the old English dialect the expression “helling potatoes” meant, not to roast them, but simply to place the potatoes in the ground or in a cellar.
The meaning given today to the word “hell” is that portrayed in Dante’s Divine Comedy and Milton’s Paradise Lost, which meaning is completely foreign to the original definition of the word. The idea of a “hell” of fiery torment, however, dates back long before Dante or Milton.
“Hellfire” has been a basic teaching in Christendom for many centuries.
It is understandable why The Encyclopedia Americana (1956, Vol. XIV, p. 81) said:
“Much confusion and misunderstanding has been caused through the early translators of the Bible persistently rendering the Hebrew Sheol and the Greek Hades and Gehenna by the word hell. . .” #1

Regarding the future of the *incorrigibly wicked* please notice what God's Word itself says:
"The *future* of wicked people will indeed be *cut off*."---Psalm 37:38b
"In a flaming fire . . . . These very ones will undergo the judicial punishment of *everlasting destruction* from before the Lord and from the glory of his strength."---2 Thessalonians 1:8-9
[The mention of fire is *symbolic* for the fact that their eternal destruction will completely eradicate & cleanse them & their influence from all existence, forevermore! In Bible times they burned the dead bodies of animals along with criminals deemed unworthy of a resurrection . . . in the dump! That fire was kept going continuously to get rid of every last vestige of uncleanness!]
'As the beast dies, so the man dies . . . All are going to one place.
They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust.'---Ec. 3:19-20
"Far be it from the true God to act wickedly, and the Almighty to act unjustly!"---Job 34:10
"You will ... *return to the ground,* for out of it you were taken.
For dust you are and *to dust* you will return."---Genesis 3:19
". . . Transgressors themselves will certainly be *annihilated* together."---Psalm 37:38a
". . . Evildoers themselves will be *cut off* . . ."---Psalm 37:9
Regarding 'the lake of fire & sulphur', please notice its contents:
"But as for the cowards and those without faith and those who are disgusting in their filth and murderers and fornicators and those practicing spiritism and idolaters and all the liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur. THIS MEANS the SECOND DEATH.”---Revelation 21:8
*"DEATH [adamic death]* and *HADES [the common grave of mankind]* were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the *SECOND DEATH---[PERMANENT CESSATION OF LIFE / ACTIVITY],* the lake of fire."---Revelation 20:14
IF the 'second death' meant 'eternal torment' there are two questions that need answered:
1. Why doesn't it say that that is what it means;
2. HOW are adamic death & the common grave of mankind to suffer torment ... and ... WHY?!
B.
Mankind was designed to live on the earth. Jesus was the first human to be resurrected to heaven. He was also the one who introduced the concept, BUT, he spoke of TWO groups of his followers: 'the little flock' who are reassigned to life in heaven, as king-priests alongside Christ, ruling together over the earth & the vast majority of mankind, who remain assigned to live on the earth:
"As regards the heavens, to Jehovah the heavens belong,
But the EARTH he has given to the sons of MEN."---Psalms 115:16
". . . The MEEK ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."---Psalms 37:11
"Blessed are the MEEK: for they shall inherit the EARTH."—Matthew 5:5
(Christ here restated the prophecy.)
"The righteous themselves will possess the EARTH,
And THEY WILL RESIDE FOREVER UPON IT."---Psalm 37:29

idk ive thought about it too, if you repent and mean it true to youre heart youre forgiven. but dont make it so often that you dont feel its true youreself. i know what some people do is not the minor stardard of youre wrong doing. and if you continue that wrong doing then yes you might go to hell. i hope i made sense, im only 13 thought. but i still dont know why hell and heaven are so infinite, i guess ill ask god when i die
