Car accelerates by itself?

Ok so my dad has a honda accord from 1990 and then this one day he came from work and would rev up like vroom......vroom.....vroom. I am interested in cars and plan on studying on them one day. So can anyone tell me what could be wrong it? It's a manual tranns if that changes anything.

it,s not the transmission doing it ! sounds like the idle air control sensor is sticking, the throttle linkage is sticking or the throttle body needs to be cleaned out !

He idled it up so it won't stall when he would try & teach you how to drive a standard transmission .

  • the surging idle tells me that you have a vacuum leak.
