Fellow Seniors, do you find that when elated we, as human beings cannot contain this feeling?

I can't! I simply have to share my joy with others.

Many here are aware that I was widowed two years ago. What I did not say was I had to give up my home my husband and I shared as I certainly could not maintain a home that size. The utilities were killing me too...no matter how much I cut back my usage, it was never enough!

I had to downsize and move into an apartment where I have never felt at home. I started searching for a home a few months ago realizing that I needed to keep it simple and it needed to be in excellent condition structurally. I wasn't sure I would actually find such a home in my price range, but I did not give up!

Well, I found a home which had been reduced by ten thousand dollars, it met all criteria, is in impeccable condition, only seven years old and offered a year guarantee on the home. It was perfect, but at the top of what I wanted to pay. I thought, what the heck, I'll throw them a low ball offer which would still be fair to the seller and keep the price comparable to similar homes in that neighborhood. I really did throw a low ball offer and...they accepted the price!

I am elated for two reasons: This is the first time I have truly felt like I am moving forward with my life, without my husband. Secondly, I LOVE MY NEW HOME and cannot contain my excitement.

When you have these times, do you just have to shout it to the world or can you contain your excitement?

Update:

Thank you, Daisy.

Update 2:

I cannot thank you all enough for sharing my joy. It means a lot to me. DeDe...you brought tears to my eyes, thank you for the kind words.

Update 3:

S, thank you so much, what a sweet thought and I appreciate this.

Update 4:

Spirit, you all have placed even more joy in my heart tonight and I thought it couldn't hold too much more! I was wrong.

oh gale it makes me happy to know that you are finding that you can do good for yourself! i am so sure that loved ones who have passed on would just be rejoicing in heaven that you are finding some sort of happiness! we have no alternative but to live and you chose to live. know that i am so very happy for you and that you also give hope to others who are depressed due to loss and inability to make the good decision that you have finally made. may you find peace and when you do have those down days think of doing something creative with your new place. you have cheered me up for sure! may god be with you and keep you safe, always, spirit.

Good for you, I am sure you are proud of yourself for making the decision to buy another home, and fulfilling all the criteria you felt was necessary. You deserve to be elated and walk around with a big smile on your face.

PS I am very proud of you too. You knew the apartment wasn't right for you so you made a decision to find something better instead of simply feeling bad about it. It took focus and a great deal of persistence to get where you are right now.

I am certain that that fellow human can do what I might no longer... Anyway, If that fellow human shouldn't be my buddy, i'm certain that i'll deal with that fellow human simply the identical as every other stranger I met.

Gale, I am really happy for you.

I have been reading about the sad events in your life over the years, your nieces and the lose of your beloved husband.

It is time now for you to enjoy life and move forward.

I know you will never forget those left behind you but now is your time to shine!

Enjoy your new home and plant yourself a "victory garden" in remembrance of those who are not physically but spiritually still with you.

    God bless take care.

I am happy for you...I remember living in apartments for years to stay on a budget with my utilities and never feeling quite at home & a lack of privacy since the maintenance, apartment manager and others would come inside on a regular basis for "inspections" or whatever. I felt free when I moved into this house and had my own private fenced backyard and no one knocking on my door for inspections or maintenance. What a difference it makes to have your place, and you got a bargain too. "Home Sweet Home" takes on a fresh meaning doesn't it?

Gail,I said a prayer rejoicing in The Lord last night and this morning rejoicing in this blessing He has given you. Considering the heartaches you have been through in the last three years or more, this news warms my heart and so glad to see the glow in your spirit.

I count one of my greatest blessings is having you as a friend.

    Well, good for you!!

I also have never been comfortable in apartments. I love people but need my privacy having lived in the woods or country situations for most of my life and almost all of my adult life been a homeowner - the intermittent apartment times/renting times were not the best for me...

So, congrats on knowing yourself well enough to make the move - enjoy your sanctuary and best of luck in there... it's yours now.

Congratulations!! It is so good to hear a happy story here and I'm happy for you. It will be a thrill to move in and know it is all yours. Have a happy house warming!!! And to answer your question, the feeling of almost euphoria wells up in us when our dreams are becoming reality.....we just cannot help it.
