How long does it normally take for off-post housing to be approved at camp humphreys?
Husband and I agreed to go the non command sponsored route since the wait time to be command sponsored was 6 months to 1 year. This is his first duty station right out of AIT. I got to korea the end of August, but it has been 5 weeks since the housing paperwork was submitted, and there is still no word. And to top everything off, his AIP was denied so were only going to be here for the remainder of his tour. About 7 months, could someone give me the steps we need to take for this? It just feels like a waiting game, and it's difficult traveling half way around the world, and still being unable to spend time with your husband because he has to stay in the barracks until the paperwork is complete? Any information will be great! I've checked everywhere with no luck.

Hey glad to see another wife at Humphreys :D
This was also my husband's first duty station. I moved NCS (non-command sponsored) April 9 2011 and we moved into our off post apartment 7 days later. We had to stay at the Humphreys lodge for those 7 days completely out of pocket (ouch!!).
You need to call his command (or have him do it) it should not have taken this long. His command can deny him permission to live off base, just letting you know that is rare but a possibility. Are you apart of the Facebook pages??

^^^ this is the wive's page. Ask on here, some of the other ladies may be able to give a more informative answer.

Do you know WHY the wait time is so long? I'm a little confused as to how you are there and where you are staying in the first place. What kind of visa do you have? Did you get a SOFA stamp on your passport? What if you get sick? You and your spouse should have sought advice (hope you did) about going the route you did. If you had, you would have found out that you would have been better off just waiting the year for him.....as you can see the hardship your choice has caused so far.
Let me enlighten you about a few things first. His command will not be in a hurry to process this paperwork. Why? It will cost them money from their budget. Each command's budget is determined by the number of folks it has to support from fiscal year to fiscal year. Some of that is for support for personnel. YOU are an unbudgeted expense for command (OHA, ration card, medical, etc.) Additionally, you are not at a good point in the fiscal year to be doing this. Funds are tight until 1 October, so no hurry to release funds. Also, he has nearly finished half his tour. Who is going to give you a lease in Korea that short? Finally, the push in command was to get everyone on base...Command Sponsored folks get first dibs. Unfortunately, there are more folks who want to bring families than there is infrastructure to support them. I would be willing to bet his AIP was denied because you chose to come on your own. Sorry, I could be wrong, but if approved for housing, it would be a miracle at this point.
BTW, hope you are not on a tourist visa as you will have to leave Korea in less than 2 months...they DO know where you are and will deport you. Not to scare you, but I've seen it done a few times.
Anyway, here is some help for you:
