Quick answer: Yes, there are many. They are being born each day.

Elaboration: Everyone is born an atheist. Atheism is defined as not having a belief in god. It does not have to be a choice in the matter. If you have not heard or cannot comprehend a god concept there is no way you would be able to believe in it. That being said, these children have not been exposed to evolution and likewise cannot accept it.

Now to the actual intent of the question. Most adult atheists do tend to lean more towards science for answers to the "big questions." Most are driven and convinced by evidence as opposed to superstition. However, not all atheists are. Some may just feel that god concepts are silly regardless of their views on science. Or in some cases they may find issues with some theories or feel the evidence is inconclusive.

Personally, I accept evolution, it makes too much sense and there has been a lot of evidence to support it. I however, only accept part of the Big Bang as it has been proposed. The great thing about science, is that it encourages you to learn and challenge theories. But to do so, you had better have enough evidence to back your claims.

It just so happens that most atheists understand science. The exception is babies. Babies are not theists but they do not understand evolution or gravity. Most theists also believe in evolution because it is a scientific fact. The only places you have a problem with it is in the USA and third world countries in the Middle East and Africa.

This of course stems from US mentalities that grew from the cold war and it's a really long story but pretty much this happened. Russia did something and the US did the opposite. Russia became atheist, US became super religious. The rest of the world stayed in between and really don't care about religion. Exception, third world countries and babies.

According to Jennifer Michael Hecht's book, "Doubt: A History," there have always been atheists. Even before the theory evolution was conceived.

It would be unusual - if evolution isn't occurring then what would be the alternative reason for biological diversity? Creationists might argue that God was the cause but that option isn't open to an atheist.

The belief in no gods has been around for thousands of years. I'm certainly sure evolution wasn't the reason why.

Well presumably all those infants born atheists don't believe in evolution.

The idea that no God[s] exist is not necessarily associated with belief in evolutionary theory.

There are some parts of evolution that make sense and some that make me skeptical. At the end of the day you have to remember evolution is a theory.

Seems I have seen one or two declare that they don't...

But it has nothing to do with being atheist...

Why people seem to have a problem with that, I have no idea... it's not rocket science...

    IMHO
