Why do people say "God is so good?"?

Recently a woman who was madly in love with her boyfriend killed her own 4 year old daughter. If God were merciful and "so good" why did he not prevent this from happening?

Because he suffers from a chronic lack of existence.

Because the mortal life is rather unimportant compared to the infinite life in heaven. Your life on earth is so that you can grow spiritually. Many children die frequently. God will make more.

Seriously, why should God interfere with free will which He has given us? This woman who has committed murder did so of her own free will. Now she will regret what she has done and may repent and be a much better being spiritually because of this experience. On the other hand, she may just go to hell. It's up to her whether she wants to repent or not. But if she does, that will be something really great. -_-

God gave that little girl life. Who are you to say she should never have been born? Who are you to look her gift horse in the mouth? The criminal is the woman who took her life. Why do you question God, who is the ultimate authority? Do you think God should answer to you? What hubris!

    Be careful of the fall!

God is good! But he gave us free will and chose not to make us into people who would have to follow him. He wants people to freely chose him out of our own choice. Consequently we can also freely chose to do evil if that is our choice. Don't blame God for the sins of mankind, blame the ones who commit the sins. God gave us a beautiful green earth to live on, with water and food in abundance, but we are the ones who screwed it up and are still screwing it up. When some people see horrible things like what you're speaking of they wonder if there really is a God, or think if he is real then he must be cruel for letting those things happen. At the same time do they ever stop for a min to thank him for the good things that they have and pray for those who are less fortunate? We don't understand everything that happens or completely understand why he allow certain things, but he has his reasons. You or I cannot understand him or his ways. He is infinite! He can tell you the end of a thing, from the bigginning. We ate finite and can't see what's gonna happen five minutes from now. That's why he asks us to trust him. If we don't know, he does! So we pray. If we can't understand, he does! So we pray, if we can't see, he does! So we pray and believe because he has everything in his hands. Is God merciful? Think about this, that 4 year old is in his arms right and is enjoying such love, peace and joy that he/she can't even remember the things he/she suffered in this life. So while you're questioning the goodness of God because of what that child sufferred, they now have the answers to why it happened and I believe that they are satisfied with his reasons without the slightest bit of complaint. How can they complain when the pain of this flesh and blood body can't even be remember when you're in an immortal one. So don't blame God because some devil possessed woman kills her child because of some guy. Blame the devil and woman. Instead of questioning the goodness of God, why don't people hate on devil for getting people to do evil things. Besides if God was unmercifull, we'd all be dead right now! Only mercy and grace could keep this world going and that's it!

    Why has God allowed suffering?

For a time, Jehovah has tolerated rebellion against his sovereignty. Why? To show that no effort to rule without him benefits people. (Jeremiah 10:23) After 6,000 years of human history, the issue has been settled. Human rulers have failed to eliminate war, crime, injustice, and disease.—Read Ecclesiastes 7:29; 8:9; Romans 9:17.

By contrast, those who accept God as their Ruler benefit themselves. (Isaiah 48:17, 18) Soon, Jehovah will bring all human governments to an end. Only people who choose to be ruled by God will inhabit the earth.—Isaiah 2:3, 4; 11:9; read Daniel 2:44.

    The Bible’s answer

Is God to Blame for Our Suffering?

The Bible emphatically answers no! Suffering was not part of Jehovah God’s purpose for mankind. However, the first human couple rebelled against God’ruler shipip, choosing to set their own standards of good and bad. They turned away from God and suffered the consequences.

Today we are experiencing the effects of their bad choice. But in no way did God originate human suffering.

The Bible says: “When under trial, let no one say: ‘I am being tried by God.’ For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone.” (James 1:13) Suffering can afflict anyone—even those who are favored by God.

Perhaps the greatest thing about God's creation is that He has involved human kind in bringing it about. His creating transforming power didn't stop after 7 days, it still goes on. We are a part of it.

I believe the promises that God made to human kind in the holy scriptures.

God's view of life stretches to the infinite. The pain and suffering we experience in this life is nothing to the infinite love of God that we have yet to experience. We are called to play our part and take our share of the suffering that is involved in bringing love out of nothing.

This life is a preparation for that love. God is transforming this world in the way He chooses.

It doesn't really help to judge God.

This is a classic argument that falls under If there is a God then why does bad things happen. Good question but God never said that bad things won't happen. In fact, we are a world existing apart from God's government and rules for our lives starting in Eden. As a result of going against what God wanted for us, we have to see the results of these actions. Thus war, death, disease, unhappiness, poor health, and on and on.

For the same reason that the victim smiles at the person holding the gun to their head: 'god is good'.

Regarding this woman, read the old Greek tragedies, especially Jason and Medea. You'll learn more from literature than you ever will from scripture.

For Medea, though, it was rage; this woman was fueled by the ancient fear of loss. Greed and fear.

God gives us freewill so we can chose to love him on our own. This earth is a test, and when you compare your time here to eternity it puts things in prospective.

    The Good News.

“God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain” (Revelation 21:4).

Also if that woman would have believed in the teaching of God that would not have happen.

It all goes back to Adam and Eve. When God told Adam not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil or he would surely die, all or our deaths and all the evil that we can do or imagine was included in that package. If you have to blame someone blame Adam and Eve or blame the serpent who lied to them and caused them to not believe what God had spoken.

Ultimately the blame for evil lies in each of us its the choices we make the four year old girl was innocent, but the rest of us are guilty. God is always good and NEVER evil. He gave us free choice and free choice gives us the power to do great good and horrible evil, to love and to hate. God poured out the just punishment for all sin from Adam and Eve to now even for this lady who killed her daughter on his only begotten Son Jesus when he was hung on the cross. He will straighten this mess out and restore a perfect world in his own time. Till then try not to make the same mistake that Adam and Eve made by not believing what God said. All he asks of us is the very thing that Adam and Eve failed at, he wants us to believe him, to trust him. See when the serpent tempted Eve she should have reasoned in her mind and in her spirit "God loves me and would never keep any good thing from me" But instead she believe the serpent and considered God a liar.

John 3:16-21 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who BELIEVES in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who BELIEVES in him. But anyone who does not BELIEVE in him has already been judged for not BELIEVING in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”
