what can I do if someone is illegally using my address?
This is a bit long winded, sorry. I had an ex partner who was also my full time, live in carer. He just left one day when I was asleep! No note. Havn't heard from him since. This was back in June of this year. We were together 5 years. He was a compulsive liar anyway. What I want to know is, what can I do about him illegally using my address?? Which he is still doing. I've spoken to the Police. Not much help. I write on the letters, return to sender. But they still come. Now, I've opened a couple. Yes, I know, I'm not supposed to. But a couple were from his bank. So, I wrote and told them he doesn't live here anymore and has no right to be using my address. He is overdrawn so they are chasing him for that. Yesterday, one came from his mobile phone provider. He owes them £200. and now a debt agency is after him. I've written to them, to explain. I'm worried baliffs are going to turn up. Or, my address will be blacklisted. I have a very good credit rateing with no debts. I read on line, someone said, the post office don't bother to return letters to the sender?? I am disabled and this is very stressful, as I am bed bound. He owes the CSA over £10,000. and is wanted for fraud with the DWP. so, I wrote to them. Any advice would be welcome please. thank you.

He's not lazy, he's doing it on purpose!!
As I said, the police aren't much help. I am returning them with the address crossed out, and not known. But they still send them.
It's not like he can't pay his debts with his, 'secret bank account'.
That's what annoys me the most!
And I have to inform people and pay the postage!

It's unlikely that what he's doing is fraud, more likely he's lazy and hasn't bothered to change his address.
All you can really do, is keep doing what you're doing - send them back marked no longer at this address.
The post office does return letters, but companies are very lazy about changing their databases, especially when they have no alternative address to enter.
On your credit rating, you should check your credit file and enter a 'notice of diassociation' - basically saying that anything to do with him at your address is nothing to do with you, he does not live there and your finances are not 'co-mingled'
Bailiffs are hard to shake off - again, especially when they have no new address. If they turn up after you've told them he doesn't live there, they are breaking their terms of their licence which can be revoked. So make sure you let them know that you know this.
Finally, make sure he's not on the electoral roll at your address - if you haven't yet filled out a new form, contact the council and get him taken off

Keep opening the letters and either write or phone them up, you will not be blacklisted as it is not your name. You could write to the credit reference agencies and tell them he is not connected to your address. You should also tell the police as he is committing fraud.

Yes I do know it's an offence to open someones mail, but I did the same when someone was using my address. They are hardly likely to prosecute you if they are committing fraud.
The Post Office DO return the mail.

Do not open those letters. Every time you get something addressed to him just put an X through the address and write
Return to Sender, No Such Person at this Address
and stick it in your nearest postbox
Don't even admit to knowing him. It's none of their business. If bailiffs do show up just flat out tell them they have the wrong address and there is no such person living there and you are the only tenant. Say that someone is fraudulently using your address and you have already reported this to the police
