Your mom is right on a percentage of people as not all broken bones heal right. If that's the case you can have it looked at to see what's causing your pain. Other than that there's not much else you can do if you find out there seems to be nothing wrong that's causing the pain.

You could have some bones slightly out of place and causing problems or you may have have peripheral neuropathy in your foot due to nerve damage when it was broken.

Peripheral neuropathy describes damage to the peripheral nervous system, or the system that transmits information from the brain and spinal cord to every other part of the body. Peripheral nerves send sensory information back to the brain and spinal cord.

Research indicates that what happens in some cases is that the glial cells surrounding the nerve cells produce chemicals that modulate the sensitivity of the nerves. Normally they act to boost sensitivity of pain nerves at the site of an injury so that you will avoid causing further damage, sometimes what should be a protective mechanism gets stuck on the 'boost setting' after the injury has healed and this can result in persistent long term pain with no obvious cause.
