How disabled do you have to be to receive mobility/disability benefits in the UK?
Reason I ask: An elderly lady with chronic asthma, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis and cannot walk more than 4 steps as opposed to a 40 year old man who has occasional convulsions, teaches karate 3 - 5 times per week and walks as if he is an olympic walk/race competitor.
Where is the justice? Where are the ethics and by law how can he receive these benefits while the lady is refused?
Any information or tips appreciated. Thanks

This is socialism for you and the reason we have 7 million "disabled" people in the UK.

Depends what the 40 year old man has - just by knowing he teaches karate doesn't mean you know if he's able to hold down a full-time job. Also depends on what grounds the elderly woman has been turned down; she is also able to appeal.
Then again - there are such things as benefit cheats. If you think he's fraudulently claiming, you can always report him.

Your elderly lady may have made the common mistake of being heroic about her ailments when completing the application form. If she under-represented the effects of her symptoms, then she may have done herself a dis-service. Similarly the doctor examining her may not have appreciated the full effects of the symptoms if he happened to see her on a 'good' day when she was free of asthma and could walk relatively well. I hope she appealed the decision.

I hope that the lady has appealed and the other scrounger has been reported. It makes me so mad when you see genuine people refused benefits.
