What is a vote for Obama revenge for?

Obama says vote for revenge against Republicans, capitalists, conservative Christians, and the next day says he will work hand in hand with them.

Why is the best that Obama supporters can hope for an "electoral victory"? That is difficult to pull off and it sounds like a losing side strategy. I think they are trying to save face in the face of a modest Mitt Romney electoral, sight Romney popular vote victory.
