TAX CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS QUESTION?

Tax preparers need 15 continuing education credits before January 1st in order to be able to do tax return work. I just found out today that the IRS isn't going to be releasing the necessary information for coursework needed until after January 1st; thusly making it impossible to take any classes and obtain the credits by the 1st of January. There is no way to contact anybody at the IRS who can shed any light on this minor problem affecting some 300,000 plus tax preparers. Does anybody have any ideas on how to overcome this problem?

the make up of the 15 credits has been a public subject for two years, you have to have 2 hrs of ethics, no less than 1 hr of tax law, 1 hr of updates etc

for those of us who have had continuing education for more than 40 yrs this is not a problem

if you haven't been deluged with all kinds of companies now producing seminars and courses to fulfill these requirements, you must not be in the mailing list

as well, IRS has been conducting webinars on the internet(including the Ethics) since April, in fact on DEc. 19 there will be one specifically related to the competency exam, www.irs.gov has the information

Anything released after Jan 1 would be for the next tax year.

Only credits obtained through courses offered by IRS approved continuing education providers will count towards the IRS’ continuing education requirement. If a course offered by an IRS approved continuing education provider also meets a state’s continuing education requirements, the IRS will not prohibit a tax return preparer from using the credits obtained from the course to satisfy both requirements, but the tax return preparer should consult with the relevant state’s licensing authority to determine whether the state has any restrictions.

The IRS public listing displays the city and state where the CE organization is located. This does not necessarily indicate where programs are offered. To see if a provider offers programs in your area, visit the web site of the individual CE organization. There are also self-study and group internet programs.

Abolish the IRS and replace the tax system with a flat tax. Problem solved.

you could take it for the academic and correct prices, it would not count number what type of software or college it truly is. then once you get out of faculty you could declare your student loan interest as a deduction. woo hoo!!!
