What would you do if you find a cat has a tick?

There is a cat that has been around the block at least a few times. I was petting him and noticed a weird protrusion. When I brought him into the light I found he had a tick. So at first I tried veg oil to get the tick to back out. That didn't work so my brother tried the hot match method and that didn't work. I got two screws together and pulled the tick out. Do you think he will be alright? He has been around since at least when my mom bought the house in 1996.

Pull the tick out with tweezers, use a slight twist and go very slowly to help make sure the head also comes out. Then put the tick in a plastic baggie, without touching it, clean the area with neosporin or peroxide, and bring the cat and the tick to the vet. It doesn't have to be immediately but you need to have it checked out withing the next 48 hours.

I would also be very careful not to hurt the cat considering your cat is a tiger.
