Affordable alternative to an ACOG?
I had an ACOG on my M4 when I was in the Army and used it many times in Afghanistan and absolutely loved it. Then I was absolutely shocked by how expensive it is, but obviously it is very high quality.
Basically I'm looking for a similar sight that is under $500. My favorite features was the power of the scope, the small compact size, and that the cross hairs were lit up by natural sunlight, no battery required.
Any suggestions?

The M68 has neither magnification or battery-free operation. Not to mention, personally, I think its a POS, never held a zero for more than 60 days.

saved for a Trijicon. from my experience, once you like something you won't be happy with a substitute.
I like Trijicon too. there is simply to alternative, the only way is to save for it. it only $1500 or so, I would very much rather spend $1500 than buy an alternative i am not satisfied with for $500 only to buy an ACOG two years later for $1500, total expenditure = $2000, you'll never get over that you spent 500 bucks on something and it was a bad idea.
Source(s): Saving for a Trijicon. could be years, but I think it will be worth every day I waited. same time, saving for a NV scope and I want a very nice telescopic sight too. I just nicked the surface of quality optics with my Millett. I can't get over how much money I wasted on cheap junky optics. the fixed magnification ones aren't bad, but the glass quality contract is as great as night vs day! likewise, still bothers me how much cash i wasted buying guns that i later decided wasn't what i wanted... - Robert HLv 68 years ago
There's nothing out there at that quality. But why not go with the "other" US Military sight the M68 also known as an Aimpoint Comp ML2. About $450 - $500 retail, and this often includes a free mount.

Not really. You could get a 1-4 from Burris (XTR) or Vortex (PST) at your price range, but they're both variable scopes lit by battery. Trijicon is pretty much the only name in the game when it comes to tritium/fiber optic scopes.
