Will puppy food harm my 3 year old dog?

I accidentally bought a large bag of puppy food today. I was in a hurry and just bought the brand I normally buy. When I got home I opened it and started to pour it into his bowl. I thought to myself the piece where small, so I read the bag and it was puppy food. Anyway it is open now so I can not return it. Will this hurt him? It is about a 3 week supply. He is a medium mixed breed dog(yellow lab and unknown )He is very healthy and active.

One bag will not harm him.

If you look at the back of the bag and find the AAFCO statement, it will tell you if you can use it on an adult. If it says 'all life stages' at the end of the AAFCO statement, it is nutritionally acceptable for both puppies and adults. If it says 'growth' it is puppy only.

Either way, your dog will be fine. Maybe some diarrhea from a change in diet, but that goes away in a few days.

He'll be fine on it. It's pretty fully of calories (because growing pups need calories) so feed him a little less of the puppy food than you normally would with his normal food.

When you only have a couple weeks of food left, buy the normal stuff and mix the 2 foods together for about a week (starting off with mostly puppy food, then gradually making it more adult food). This will help with digestive upset(because changing a dog's food can cause upset stomach).

Usually, you stop feeding dogs puppy food anywhere from 6 months-old to 1 year-old. I would go ahead and start weaning him on to adult food. Just start by giving him 2 parts of puppy food to 1 part adult, do this for a couple of days then gradually give more of the adult food and less of the puppy food. He should be switched over to only adult food by the end of the week. Your dog is adorable! Looks like he is definitely Rottweiler/Shepherd mix. What a handsome dog! Hope I helped.

No Don't worry , Puppy food is softer and full of even more nutrients and calcium since there made for growing puppies. It won't harm your dog in anyway , Puppy food is really good for adult dogs too , Vets also recommend to feed puppy food to Females dog who are awaiting puppies because it's good for the dog's health and like I said has a lot more vitamins and calcium! Your beloved dog will be fine! Wish you the best!

Your dog will be fine. to be honest your dog will be getting a lot more nutrition because puppies need to have a lot of calories and nutrition to grow. Do not feed your dog puppy food all the time (all the year)

or it will get sick or disease because of the high amount of calories your dog may get over weight but only after long term use of puppy food

Most pet stores will take it back even if open (it goes to dog food banks). Puppy food had a lot more fat in it. It won't hurt your dog but could make it fat. Check with where you bought it to see if you can return. The big box pet stores will let you return.

Kibble is terrible, processed food that causes all sorts of sicknesses, illnesses, and diseases. RAW meat had an amazing transformation with my 2 dogs! No dog food is good for dogs. No offense to all of the kibble feeders. Kibble is known for causing ALL sorts of diseases. Here is a list of those diseases: Dermatitises of all sorts, cancers, joint problems, heart problems, kidney problems, digestive problems ("lack of enzymes"), liver problems, pancreas problems, coat problems, tooth problems, anal gland problems, glandular disorders, allergies, and soft doughy bodies. Yes, even kibble like Orijen and Acana cause these. The thing is, is that kibble is processed and has a whole bunch of added things to it that dogs don't need. Most kibbles add potatoes, peas, supplements, etc, that dogs DON'T need.

You see, dogs are CARNIVORES not OMNIVORES. If you dissected a dog, you would notice that its internal organs are almost IDENTICAL to the wolf's. Only 0.2% ISN'T the same. Dogs are not made for digesting vegetables. The enzymes in their mouths are specifically made for breaking down MEAT. Sure, they can eat veggies, but they're not designed to and often have a hard time digesting them.

Dogs need a COMPLETELY raw diet to be healthy. This would be 80% muscle meat, 10% organs, and 10% bone. These diets aren't even expensive if you can find the right sources. I get my meat from hunting, my hunting friends, my butcher shop, or I go to the store and see what's on sale. Meat is cheaper if you can get it RIGHT when it's about to expire. Dogs don't care if the meat is a little "ripe" and it certainly won't hurt them. I also post ads on craigslist about wanting FREE freezer-burnt or expired meat that no-one wants and that sometimes works too.

Believe me, if you start on RAW, you'll NEVER look back. The great results are endless! Fewer vet bills and better health for your dog! I've seen dogs live to 22 years old on RAW (LARGE dogs). The worlds oldest RAW fed dog is 27 years old!! GOOD LUCK with your dog and I hope you decide on RAW!

No he will be fine, puppy food just has smaller kibbles and a few different vitamins than adult dog food. I even use kibbles from puppy food as treats when training my dogs.
