Age is a state of mind: If you didn't know how old you were...how old would you be?

I saw an interview with the NBA's 7-time All-Star Grant Hill, and this was his response to being asked how it felt to be the second oldest player in the sport (by only one day). I found it rather profound...and he has proven it to be quite true.

Update:

The fact that he's only 40, and yet was basically asked how it feels to be "old" is exactly the point I'm trying to make. It's just a number.

I actually feel older than my years. Just because of a car accident many years ago, that now

has me living with a disability and arthritus has settled in and made it home. Due to allergies,

I have an imbalance problem to add to my disability. So I feel like 80 probably would, and I

am not even 70 yet. I feel like I can get up and get going like I'm 55. But reality hits when I

stand and grab for my cane to keep my balance. I had no idea I'd feel older than my years, and

that I'd be able to continue an active lifestyle for many more years. Is it no wonder I spend most

of my day, finding entertainment where I can in sit down mode?

I agree with Roxy about this. On any given day I may feel like a teenager with energy, ideals, and goals for the new and far future. Then on a day when my body feels like it is filled with lead, and my mind seems to have a gray cloud in it so that I don't even feel awake and my eyesight seems dim, those days I am at least 90 and maybe over 100.

All of my life I have been surprised that some days are way worse than other days. I still don't know if it was a bad hair day, or my brain just wasn't on, or lack of sleep, or ongoing problems going on in the back of my mind. Then maybe just a few days later I would look in the mirror and see the sunlight shining on my hair, my skin showed a little color, my eyes sparkled a little and my body seemed able to do whatever I wanted. So much easier to live life feeling good about myself, I just wish it would happen more often. Same thing goes with age some days I feel old and dreary, others I just feel ok with the world and except for some wrinkles I look pretty good.

Unfortunately the mind can not over come the body. As we age it is better to be realistic. Grant Hill is not a senior. He has been an athlete all his life. Lets have him interviewed when he gets 65 and see how he feels. I bet he will be a bit more sensible.

We cant know what we don't know. I feel about the same as I felt 5 years ago.

"Age is a state of mind." Nope. It isn't. I'm 65 and whenever I forget, my body will remind me by the end of the day.

Grant Hill was born in 1972. He's a 40 year old athlete. He's not feeling his age yet. The earliest most start noticing signs of aging is around 50.

age aka time is relative. If you're happy the day goes by quickly. If there are troubles it is hard to put one foot in front of the other. Then sometimes we get someone in our life that we have to push through life and that's even more difficult. But, it beats the alternative.

There's a website here somewhere that has a quiz to determine your age, based on your physical condition, and your mental condition. I scored 57, and my calendar says I'm 64. Not bad..

The calendar says I'm 72, but if I were to guess my age, I'd say I was 52 or so.

I think I'm 34 until I start to walk a distance or move furniture around.
