Aren't all religions ultimately selfish?
People accuse atheists of being selfish but aren't all religions ultimately selfish as they claim to provide eternal benefits to their believers? How can anyone know that his faith is real and not just hedging his bet that there is an afterlife for those who "had the right religion"?
lol! Atheism is not a "scientific discovery". Its the lack of one. Anyone who militantly declares that there "is no god!" is no more scientifically supported than the theist. Scientific atheism is simply the position that there is insufficient evidence available to support a belief in the existence of god(s). Just like there is insufficient evidence available to support a belief in unicorns or bigfoot. In order to be a scientific atheist one has to allow for the possibility of god(s), just as we allow for the possibility of time travel or "strings". Its just that there's more evidence for the validity of quantum mechanics than there is for Christianity.

Yes. Reward and punishment is the basis. How many would follow the religious dogmas if they didn't believe in some sort of reward?

No, quite the opposite. Most religions are to help people find peace and to secondarily help people live better as a community. The Christian faith is supposed to be the opposite of selfish, but either a lot of Christians are not fulfilling what Christ asked of them, or outsiders perceive their actions wrong. Christians are to look out after the poor, afflicted, disenfranchised, etc., and to save people from hell is also the opposite of selfish. If you truly believed that people and go to hell, wouldn't it be better for you to try and keep them out of there? Anyway, of course, there are some weird religions out there, referred to as cults, that are harmful, and there are and always have been power hungry people that have used religion as a means to an end.

When we judge or philosophize with the words we mindfully construe pertaining to dualism, we actually tell others where we are.
Also, what we subconsciously dislike about our selves we often try to change in others.
If we hate it's because we hate our selves, this can be due to being spiritually subverted by the evils of this world - lies, family and societal breakdown.
And even buying into empirically derived scientific discoveries, then following them as though they were religions or philosophies. (Atheism)

when a political leader wanted to implement his idea to resolve social issues, he needs supporters to believe him, so he approached the religious group (i.e. the Catholic Vatican) whose has great influence, then signed a diplomatic treaty (e.g. 1984 with Catholic) (to build more churches in America; many are unknowingly making cults--5 easy steps and registered as Charity Acts to get away paying huge taxes). all true religions should promote peace, not conflict, however, when they are mixed with politics, conflict kicks in (to push responsibilities to its church people or citizens)--conspiracy theories, e.g. Holocaust, AIDS (get yourself educated from Wikipedia).

Here is what I think, each religion says they are the only and true religion, well, meaning all of them cannot be right, therefore none of them are right

That's why it is important for people to not be followers of religion but seekers of the word of God.

"How can anyone know that his faith is real"? Well, I can. I believe the claims of Jesus. I don't think that's selfish, I think that's wise.
