How do you answer the question "where are you from"?
I was born in panama and then at 6 months I moved to the US. Since then I've lived in 5 different states. I never know how to answer this.

It depends on the context. Sometimes it means, "Where were you born?" Sometimes the question is "Whee do you live now?" Sometimes the question means "Where did you grow up?"
When in doubt, answer "I was born in panama and then at 6 months I moved to the US. Since then I've lived in 5 different states."

When someone asks you "Where are you from?" they want to know from where your family originated.
For example if someone asks me the same question in US i would simply say I am from India.
If someone asks me the same question in India i would tell them the city or state i am from.
Just tell them that you are from Panama.

it could be a couple things depending on the context.
Where do you live now?
What is your race/ethnicity?
Where did you move from?
answer it however you want
