Yes. When I was only a toddler, my twin sister and I had been put into our shared cot by Mum, who went off for an afternoon nap. I recall the sparse but sunny room clearly, with its linoleum on the floor. My sister stood in one corner of the cot up against the wall; I stood in the opposite one, when she suddenly sneezed and I got such a start, I fell over the raised cot side and that's the last I remember. I was concussed and taken to hospital where it was discovered I'd cracked my collar-bone.

However, one of my earliest, and abiding memories, was of a strange, dream-like scene where I found myself floating way up high above planet earth, looking down on this beautiful planet from outer space, the blackness all around just highlighting the colours on earth. I could see the entire globe in this snapshot-like scene, so I must have been a long, long way away. Now, please bear in mind that this was around 1951 and we never even had a black and white television in the house. There were no colour photos of such scenes - they were 8 years ahead in the future! I was barely out of baby-hood. How could I know what the earth looked like, as a toddler? How could I even know that such a thing as the universe existed?

The most significant part of this experience was a slender, silver cord linked from me, curving on my left hand side, going all the way back to earth. Why was that significant? Well, my parents brought me up to learn the Bible, but with a system that denied there was any consciousness after death; they were soul anihilationists who thought that the dead would stay out of existence until a future resurrection day. When Ecclesiastes 12:6 came to my attention, this was explained away vaguely. But it grabbed my attention, even as a child, because it says:

"Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, 'I find no pleasure in them'. Remember him - before the silver cord is severed... and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it."

Now I realise that my spirit was in process of returning to God after that accident. As I had no pre-conditioning about such matters (as a toddler) I just recorded this scene in my brain, where it has lodged ever since. As an adult who has now rejected some of the biblical interpretations my parents instilled into me, this is evidence to me that Ecclesiastes 12 speaks of what happens at the point of death. Fortunately, it was not my time to go. I regained consciousness in the hospital and have gone on living for 60 years thereafter.

The problem is that even this is impermanent, you're still going to eventually come back to your body. Then what?
