B&A - Writers: Has anyone asked you to dedicate your novel/work in progress to them?
Just wondering.
I've mentioned my novel to a few of my friends, one of my closest instantly screaming in my face, "CAN YOU DEDICATE IT TO ME?" Another one had the same reaction. Which I found pretty funny.
I said yes, knowing it was all in jest. Hopefully.
What about you?

I don't have narcissistic friends like that.
Okay, I don't have friends.
But if I did, they wouldn't be that type.

Lol no. I don't plan to publish anyway so...
I have asked someone to mention me in her acknowledgements though. Because I accidentally rescued her novel from the depth of her abandoned ideas. We were just chatting and she was telling me about ideas she had started but didn't plan to continue. I got excited about that one and we've discussed it many many times. And now she has finished the first draft. I know she has a real shot at getting published because she's just that good. But yeah, I'd find it kind of ridiculous if someone asked for a dedication for no other reason than "I called dibs". wtf??
BQ: no. The idea freaks me out.

No, nobody's ever asked me to do that, thank dog. My novels don't actually have dedications, as they seem to be out of fashion these days. If someone did ask me to dedicate a novel to them, unless it was someone I was thinking of dedicating it to anyway, I'd tell them, as politely as possible, to go frak themselves.
BQ: No. I'm not keen on Philadelphia, and I don't think adding chocolate flavouring to it would make it any nicer.

YES! There's a restaurant/cafe where I wrote the majority of my first novel. My favorite waitress always asks me how the publishing process is going, and reminds me to dedicate the novel to her. If not her, then the whole restaurant, hahaha!

Haha yes when I tell people I'm writing a novel a lot of people do that. Or they ask me to base a character off them or send them a copy. It is nice of them though, it's definitely well-meant.
