Is 2040 an good SAT score?
This was my first time taking it (I'm taking it again in a few months) and I decided not to study at all. Is this good? I got a 710 in Critical Reading, a 660 in Math, and a 670 in Writing. On my essay, I got a 9 (on a scale of 2-12) - is this good? I'm usually good at writing, although not so much on standardized tests. Any tips for writing in a small amount of time space (I used every second on my essay, with no planning this time)? Thanks!
I already posted this in Standards and Testing, but I'm hoping for lots of opinions so I'll post it in Higher Education too. For reference, I'm not trying to get into an Ivy League or anything, just a state college, but I am hoping for scholarships.
Oops! I mean *a* good SAT score. :)

I'm not sure how you can't know how good your score is. Anyway, a 2040 is incredible score, especially since it was your first time taking it. You will definitely be accepted to a state school along with selective schools (assuming your GPA is good too). In terms of tips for your writing, maybe you should try to plan a bit. I would say no more than two minutes though, considering you used the entire time to write. You should also try and save a minute or two for proofreading your writing. You don't need much practice in the other areas, but I would suggest you practice writing with online prompts or prompts from a practice book. Your writing is not even a bad score, but this is my suggestion if you want to improve it.

A 2040 is great. It is a bit on the low side for ivy leagues but it seems like you have a well rounded application and therefore might still be accepted.
