Cats do not share the same concept of "family" that we humans do. To you he is her son, to her he is just another cat that she may or may not like. Is she spayed? Then that is the first step as if she's not spayed, it's instinct for her to drive the older kittens off so that she can raise a new litter. Is he neutered? If not, get him neutered as the male hormones may be very upsetting to her.

I know right my female feral cat had a litter of 3 but suddenly 2 of them disappeared and only one kitten left who was a tuxedo female so she took care of her daughter but is very aggressive to her kittens especially feeding time now the tuxedo kitten grew up now she's 1 year ( in human year) old and her mom comes to my house once a while and is aggressive to any cats or kittens that gets too close to her including if they are like 3/4 feet and closer.

Yeah so get her spayed ; )

Cats are very territorial, regardless if the are family.

More 'n likely the cats got in the other's territory or did something to corner the other, to make the son feel threatened.

My mother cat did this to her babies too! She wants him to be independent and to not rely on her. Plus she is claiming territory again. Once the kittens are a certain age the mother will basically walk away from them. Sad I know!
