Not feeling appreciated at work?
I have been in my current job for 3 months. I work for a sub-prime lender... a furniture supplier, we do hire purchase without credit checking people. The clientele are low income earners, benefit recipients and bad credit risks.
I work in the debt department and you can imagine how challenging the role will be with the types of customers I have described. They have loads of reasons why they cannot make their payment for the week and then they fall into arrears. Alof of customers just come in, get as much furniture as they can and then do a runner. The sales department need to hit their targets and are grateful when someone else signs up for goods - get the customer to sign and then no doubt, my department is the one who have to chase and trace the customer.
I have 200 customers to chase a week, whereas other colleagues have 40 customers to deal with. I know the brief details of all my customers and the other colleagues know nothing about their 40 customers.
Some of the managers do not take the calls and the customers tend to complain and the manager takes their side of it...calls are not recorded. I take and make as many calls and I am stuck on calls for other departments.
I had a 90 day review today,I worked over - FOR FREE IN THE 3 MONTHS! Just to prove I was dedicated and good for the job... character-wise at least. But because the debit is not coming down... they say I am not cutting the mustard. It is like getting blood out of a stone.
I just feel so unappreciated.
I am thinking of handing in my notice next week because it is only a weeks notice I have to give, plus, my last pay is a week after handing in the notice. I am debt and mortgage free.
I will not claim benefits either, I will just live on my savings.

You can do better. They took horrible advantage of you. Quit ASAP. You are in impossible collections. If you like accounts receivables, go into commercial A/R. It is not as stressful as consumer collections.
I am sure you have a lot to offer an employer, never work beneath your ability.

Ask for another meeting with bosses, suggest you become responsible for credit checks and move your job within the firm to their benefit. They are being totally irresponsible for not carrying checks out in the first place. Can understand you wanting to leave, and would not blame you but you have to think of your employment record for the future as well. However if they are lending money irresponsibly either they are charging horrendously high interest charges to those poor people who DO pay (not nice) OR they are not recouping thier money and the firm will eventually go under. You sound to good to be in this job.

Did you mean to say that you worked overtime for the last 90 days for free? If so, you are likely entitled to back overtime pay.
As far as what your managers say about not getting the job done, if your job is to get people to pay their bills and they aren't doing it, then you are not getting the job done. I imagine it is an extremely difficult job, but they probably don't care about that.
It sounds like a really terrible job that you have and if you have any other job prospects, you should take them. It doesn't sound like things will get better any time soon.

I think it is about time you realised you work to get paid, appreciation if there is any, is a freebie bonus.

Maybe you shouldn't feel appreciated, maybe if you give your boss a suck he would THEN appreciate you
