Is it true Catholics now believe in biological evolution?

Now that the Pope has accepted evolution as the means by which we became human, that means the Catholic Church as a whole accepts it, right? So therefore all 1 billion Catholics accept evolution over Genesis. Is that right?

[I know it was two popes ago, but I understand he was infallible].

    Yes it is true.

The Catholic Church has removed the Book of Genesis from their Bible and has replaced it with Evolution from Satan. In fact not only do they believe in Evolution but they also teach that all those who believe in Creation are destroying Christianity. This was told to me by a Catholic who also believes all True Christians who believe in Creation are false Prophets and doing the work of Satan by spreading the lie of Creation.

It sounds to me the Catholic Church today is a Cult.

Many Catholics have believed in it (probably overwhelmingly most) and some don't. It is a scientific issue and Catholics have always been free to take their own view on the topic.

Thanks for the vote of confidence in the Pope but you misunderstand the infallibility claim. Infallibility for a Pope carries a lot of fine print and any view he had on evolution is irrelevant to that concept. He is infallible in certain circumstances solely in relation to his teachings on issues of faith and morals. His teachings on other topics are not protected by infallibility and he isn't personally infallible. We've had some pretty bad Popes.

Catholicism has been around for 2000 years so a lot of nuanced stuff is widely understood by Catholics and simple terms are used because within the ranks everyone knows what they are talking about. When you as a non-Catholic hear terms used for simplicity don't make assumptions that those terms can be taken at face value.

Catholics have believed in evolution for a long long time now.

Pope isn't infallible. It's only when he speaks ex-cathedra that the WORDS are infallible. Popes in history have only spoken ex-cathedra a couple of times. No more.

Yes, accepted. It's studied AND encouraged it. Don't forget it was a priest who came up with the Big Bang theory.

Pope Pius IX opened the door to the possibility in the 50's

Pope John Paul II flung the door wide open in the 90's

Even if the first pope was wrong, the 2nd one cannot contradict him because they claim infallibility in their teaching.

Compromising God's Word with an atheistic theory......

The official position of the Catholic Church has been that evolution was probably real for some time now.

Biological Evolution was originally proposed by a true catholic.

Biological Evolution is accepted by everyone .... who does not see it as a threat to their fantasy.

Yes, if the pope says it's ok, then it becomes ok for the rest of the catholics to believe. Go figure...

Finally, they believe is one thing that IS.

About time. Now if they could continue to enter the real world, we would all be much better off.

  • Evolution is fact, to deny it makes you look foolish, if one studied the theory they'd realize just how well it explains the natural progression in our world.
