Why does everyone say theColt Python is "fragile"?

k i own a 4" 1973 Colt Python and i have never had a problem with it...iv shot thousands of .38s .38 +P+ , low to high .357 magnum loads in assortment of different brands of ammo through it as well as my own reloas and have NEVER had it fail on me...why does everybody say its "fragile"... my friends brand new S&W 686 revolver failed on him 3 weeks after getting it....my question is what do you think of Pythons...do you believe them to be just as reliable as anyother revolver?

Update:

"cain toad mutiny" why would i lie about that???? its the truth

Update 2:

those who are wondering what happened to my buddies 686 is that the cylinder locked up, it wouldn't rotate, he couldn't get the cylinder latch to release.....

Update 3:

Most of the out-of-time problems go back to the time this revolver was a staple in PPC and other competitive revolver shooting events. Those guys *actually* shot hundreds of rounds a month, thousands of cartridges per season through these guns. I shoot IDPA and run over 2,000 rounds a year through a SA 1911 and a Glock (depending on division) ... If I was still shooting Service Revolver I'd be running a K or L frame SW as all the competitive guys in the revolver classes do. I cannot recall the last Colt revolver I've seen at any IDPA or USPSA or ICORE match in eons.

Most people in those sports eventually migrated to the SW products- simply easier to tune and keep running in hard use, high volume situations

The Colt action is regarded as "fragile" and complicated... as are the D frame Colts...they time off that little nub on the v spring... of course, the way they get the legendary cylinder lock up is rather tricky to fit also.

Please describe the 686 failure. If it was the lawyer lock... that's a problem we know about. Did the barrel fall off, cylinder fall off, fail to lock up?

By the way... I never said the Python was not a quality firearm... it's always reminded me of keeping a BMW around to haul feed home in.

Since I work on old Colts, the trigger's hand pivot wears down. So does the spring Causing the timing issue. A little time solves the issue.

The Python is one stout handgun. Whether you tale has any truth or inconsistencies, or not? If, you own one? Keep. If you want one? Get it.

I never heard anyone poo poo a Python. I can see where a Ford/Chevy loyalty would lead to a pissing contest though.

I've heard that they can get out of tune easily. Translation, that the cylinder holes won't keep lining up perfectly with the forcing cone of the barrel.

I've never had one, but that's what I heard.

I have had a S&W 686 for over 25 years now, and it's been an ultra reliable gun. Really, still looks almost new.

The Toad's BS Meter is usually very accurate. After reading this evening's post and comparing it to http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoLG2... I noticed that my Lyon-Bastert Meter is now off the scale as well!

The Python IS a work of art and IMHO one of the finest revolvers made, apart from the timing issue. however, I still have my old department-issue 586 and have never had a problem with it in 25+ years of service. I also still shoot my mom's old Model 15 that she bought in the early 60's.

you're kidding your self in case you think of Miami does not have extra suitable than a million megastar. Wade is a megastar i do no longer see why you Lebron dickriders are writing him off in basic terms because of the fact of a million undesirable playoff sequence nicely... you adult males did choose him traded final season for the duration of the Pacers sequence so I should not be suprised. Lebron has a stacked team, little question it. each and every person on that roster can shoot apart from some participant he's have been given the suited 3 element shooter in NBA background on his team for fcks sake. Lebron's teamates have been wearing him all sequence, Ray had a huge activity 2, Come had a huge activity 3, have you ever forgot approximately that. Lebron finally himself led his team to a win immediately I congratulate him. do no longer underrated Lebron's teamates just to make him look extra suitable infact, devoid of Lebron they nonetheless make the ecf's no less than. LOl you needless to say haven't any awareness of basketball by any ability. Lakers did no longer have a stacked team back in 2002 it became in basic terms Shaq and Kobe infact, i'm going to record out the suited gamers on Lakers 2002 rosters- a million.Shaq' 2.Kobe 3.Fisher 4.Rick Fox 5.Horry 6. Deavin fcking George -the different scrubs ain't even quite worth holding. Lakers did no longer have a stacked solid in any respect infact, their team shot in basic terms 35% from 3 whilst in comparison with the warmth's 39%.Lakers team became terrible surrounded by utilising an allright helping solid it became in basic terms Kobe and Shaq. to verify Lebron's helping solid and Kobe's helping solid is an outrage. Lebron has a stacked team, they have carried him him so some distance this sequence, in basic terms because of the fact Lebron is in a position to throw a pass court docket bypass to an open shooter whilst frequently all 5 of his teammates out their can shoot, does not make him dazzling. You provide him too plenty credit fanboy. Wade is a celeb, Bosh is an allstar, he has a stacked team packed with shooters and a staggering center now in birdman. do no longer underrate his teammates fool. ok, you are able to end good there. Horry shot 3's horribly back in 2003 infact, he's never been that great of a 3pt shooter or shooter, you needless to say do no longer understand what you're speaking approximately. the warmth needless to say has plenty plenty plenty extra intensity than the Lakers had, and extra suitable function gamers and you already know that is authentic. end appearing such as you already know something, you began staring on the NBA in 2010.

They are not "fragile". They should be treated carefully, like any other high quality tool. One ding in a Python could cost decrease the value by $500 or more.

No offense, but I do not believe anything you say.

I've been around firearms my entire life and never have I heard anyone use the term "low to high 357 magnum loads".

Anyone who knows anything about quality revolvers knows the Python's trigger mechanism is delicate and will go out of time with heavy use.

Source(s): Not my first rodeo. Are you sure you don't want to rethink your "thousands" of rounds claim?

I have one my dad left me, one of the first made, still so reliable in winter it is one of my under coat CCW weapons.

As you travel through life never, but never, listen to "they" and "everybody". Use your own good judgement instead.

You fired thousands of rounds through it in the last 8 months?
