Is it inhumane to lock six cats up in a bathroom?

My roommates took in a stray a couple months ago and she had kittens and they refuse to get rid of them. They are about four months old and when my roommates leave the house they lock all of them up in a tiny half bathroom (no tub or shower). I find it extremely inhumane and always let them out but they seem to think there's nothing wrong with that. I'm wondering, would it be better to put them outside if they get too rowdy, or are they too young? It's still winter here if it might be too cold for them, but I've put a couple on the deck (which is buried in snow) and they didn't shiver or anything. Would that be better than locking them in the bathroom?

Yes locking them all up in a tiny bathroom with no room to move around is very cruel. I'm also guessing there is only one litter box and that is cruel as well. I hope that your roommates plan on fixing them soon or there will more then likely be even more kittens.

    How about this.

Since everyone seems to act like YOU are the one locking them up i'm going to be kind and read the whole thing before I reply.

Yes it is wrong to lock a family of kittens and a mommy cat in a tiny bathroom, why do they do that? If you really feel the need to have them in a secure room, just put them in a bedroom or have a nice play pen for them in the living room/kitchen/dining room. (Cats adore being in the sunlight and being warmed by the rays from it.)

Kittens are curious and like to explore. So give them time to wander the house when you guys are home.

And please don't send them to a shelter! They might put the mother cat down since she is older and may not get adopted! try and find friends and family that want kittens or a cat!

    Please I beg if you!

Source(s): I've had 2 litters of kittens born in my house.
  • It is very inhuman. It is terrible. Think about it. 1 litter-box. 1 food and water bowl. They could die in a tiny bathroom. It's so cruel. Wait until the ASPCA hears your super cruel roommates are doing that to innocent kittens!

I agree with the last person (the nice helpful one), but I just want to add that I wouldn't advise thta kittens this young are put outside either. They need to have injections before they go out, because they can catch diseases off other cats. They also should be neutered at around 6 months as they will breed. More importantly the risk of infection in unneutered cats is really bad. They are more prone to stray (due to looking for female cats in heat), breed, get into fights (also causing infections) and they are susceptible to feline aids, The reason I'm telling you this is because I've watched a cat die of feline aids and it was honestly heartbreaking and a he got really really sick.

One cat shouldn't be locked in the bathroom, let alone all of them and like the person above said, with one litter tray and one bowl of food/water. It is inhumane. You need to try talking to them because they honestly would have them taken off them if the RSPCA find out. They might love keeping the cats, but they are being selfish and the are not being kind to the cats. They need to look after them if they're going to keep them and if they're not, then you might need to take things into your own hands and report them. This is cruelty to animals.

Hope that helps and at least you're being considerate of them and can see that there is a problem.

Two dislikes? Note sure why? Ha, oh well, I AM sorry! Do forgive me.

its too crowded for their age. And besides that they are capable of breeding as young as 4 months old - which would kill a female if she got pregnant that young. IMO I'd tell them that the cat/kittens have to go and give them a two week deadline. If they have not taken them to a shelter, then YOU take them to the shelter where they can be spayed/neutered before they start breeding.

seem heavily on the door knob - there's a small tab sticking up fairly from the shaft - if there is, attempt pressing in on it and pulling the knob outward. On different doorways, the bezel could be became around fairly and which will enable it to be moved faraway from the door sufficient to disconnect the knob. in spite of everything, there oftentimes is the thank you to get rid of a doorknob, even nevertheless it may be on the lock area, wherein case you are able to could be fairly detrimental with removing the knob and exposing the innards of the latch. basically attempt to not cut back to rubble the door interior the approach. in case you may get the exterior knob off, you're in a position to push the interior knob out of the door and manage the latch and the locking mechanism to free up the door.
