Can a brother be minister in a sisters wedding?
My girlfriend and I are getting married (in Michigan, if it matters) next year. Her brother is ordained by the state to marry people, and would like to marry us. Is it legal for him to do so? We have heard both sides of it saying he can or he cant, I would just like someone that knows on the subject to answer, and provide the reason why not (if not).. Thank you.

I have worked for churches for 10 years. I have seen fathers marry their daughters. I have seen fathers marry their sons. My grandparents were married by my grandmother's father. There is no legal reason whatsoever for a family member not to be allowed to perform a marriage ceremony. Anyone telling you differently needs to back up their claim with facts.

The state doesn't ordain ministers.
But, yes. Her brother can officiate your wedding. It is perfectly legal.

I have been to a wedding where a brother married his little sister and it was beautiful. He actually received his certificate to marry online because she wanted him to be the officate for her wedding so bad! As long as your state allows it, it should not be a problem.

As long as he has the legal capacity to marry people, then it shouldn't stop him from performing the wedding. But if you're having people say he can't, then check with court house in your county to make sure.

Yes he can, as long as he is qualified/legal to do so.
My husband's brother was one of the three priests who married us.
