My cat gave birth to only 1 kitten last night and will not stop meowing. Is this normal?

Last night at around 1130 my 10 month old kitten gave birth to only one kitten last night. She keeps getting away from it about every 20 mins or so to meow at me or my boyfriend. She will not leave us alon, I've tried coming in to sit with her, and she has calmed down but I thought you were supposed to give them space when they had kittens? What do I do if she has more kittens? Can she still have more kittens? Also, she is purring while she meows and doesnt seem to be in pain.

Purring *is* a sign she may be in pain. It's a comforting response, and cats purr to comfort themselves. It's rare for a cat to have one kitten only - and young cats are likely to require a vet-assisted birth - they aren't developed enough and a kitten can get stuck in the birth canal. She needs to see the vet - and now. If there is a kitten stuck, it is probably dead, and any kittens remaining will be dead soon. They will quickly rot, and the resulting infection will kill her. Get on the phone to the vet - *you* allowed her to get pregnant, now it's *your* responsibility to make sure she is OK.

She may indeed have more kittens. Provide her with a clean, dry, and cozy place to be with her kitten(s). Be sure she has food and water nearby so she doesn't have to leave or go far away from her baby. (babies)

She is VERY young to have kittens. Consider please getting her SPAYED the second she has finished with this litter, BEFORE you let her out even once. It's kinda like a 12 year old person having a baby. Yuck. Too much responsibility for a kitten. Maybe she's crying because she's a Mama, and it was not her plan. It is your job to protect her from this!

  • I hope by now you have taken your cat to the vet, and get HER FIXED. I don't know if you have any idea of how many cats/dogs are put to sleep a DAY, call your local pound, ask...then you will see why you need to get your cat spayed, the pound give out certificates to where it only costs about $15.00 for this service....to any one out there wanting to adopt a PET, you have better check into the cost to visit a VET before you do...you bring an animal into your world, you need to provide this care for them, you are going to be shocked at what it cost to have a pet, but you wanted it, you need to take care of it. Hope your kitty is ok...when young female cat gets pregnant being a kitten, it will screw her up.

As if not getting your cat spayed insnt irresponsible enough..... 10 months old???? Your cats body is not developed for itself, let alone kittens. Call the vets and ask whats going on, and while your at it schedule an app to get her spayed!

This is very rare for a kitten that young to be giving birth. Usually the cat sex hormones have not developed yet. The cat is in alot of pain and you need to take her to the vet immediatly!! Both Cats could die of Glakends Diese!!! Please take them to the Vet

She needs emergency care. VERY few cats only have one kitten. She probably has a kitten stuck in her and kittens behind it can't get out and they all could die including the mother.

My vet told me several years ago in a similar situation that cats will sometimes purr when they are in

pain. My cat had two more babies,,, both deceased and each one 24 hours apart. The first one lived and was a gorgeous, long-haired silver-gray. The last two were each stillborn.
