What's the job field looking like for medical administrative assistants with a diploma?

Question

I go to a Technical college and sometimes worry that I won't be able to get a job with just a diploma. Other times, I think surely there are jobs out there that would hire someone with a diploma because if there wasn't the college wouldn't offer this major. I have talked to a woman in the field that I'm going for but honestly I feel like I made a fool out of myself. Just a little clarification and assurance would be great. Also it would be great to hear from an actual medical administrative assistant! Thanks

Office assistant diplomas are a waste of money, other than the medical terminology class you take.  Most medical offices hire people with experience, not diplomas.

Local groups and hospitals always seem to need front desk people, so the job opportunities are there.  However, around here, everyone wants a high school degree and several years of office, preferably medical office, experience.  A diploma doesn't get you experience.

Unfortunately, there are *not* supposed to be too many jobs for MAs (or medical billers or coders) despite what those private overly priced For-profit schools proclaim.  Getting formal training such as a certificate/diploma, associate (two-year) degree or even a college (four-year) degree can help one become more marketable in the field, however, there are no guarantees.
